Space above and beyond was not the worst. Did it have some issues, yes, but it was attempting to do something different than trek and I dont think a lot of people got it.

The thing that drives me nuts though was the way they depicted the Marines in the show. First off, judges dont give people a choice between military service and jail time any more, and when they did, the person certainly did not become an officer (ala the invitro guy), especially when said criminal never completed his basic education, much less college. So that can throws out his whole character.

I never understood why as officers they kept wearing the wrong uniform. They kept wearing the enlisted dress blues.

They also ALL had way too much hair, I dont expect a bunch of high and tights, but a few of them could have gotten a hair cut or two a year.

Pilot Officers, dont do ground pounding grunt work. Especially as a team of gound pounding officers.

It wasnt a bad show, it just wasnt a great show. I did really like the idea and some of the conceptual stuff was very nice. The actor who played the Colonel is a great character actor, and I really liked him.

It doesn't air here until January....
I think Sky had something to do with funding the project, which is why we're getting it first.

Different times. It's not set now...

Different military, different times? Although I agree this one is pushing it.

I don't recall any hair getting absurdly long, so this is probably nitpicking a bit much. :)

Different military, different war.

Got to definitely agree with this one. He's a great character played by a great actor.

And Richard Hatch's performance last week...
And the Effects... *thinks about what B5 would look like today*:D
• There are sooooo many B5 nuances in the battle scenes its unreal..

And the writers can write, and the actors can act...:)

If this is what TV efx looks like now, can't wait to see some total asswhoopin' in TMOS.
• FINALLY downloaded and watched episode one. WOW.

It ain't no Babylon 5, but neither was Babylon 5 until Season 2. ;)
• WORFWORF The Burninator
Only 2 left :(

Lets hope it doesn't suffer the fate of the original and lasts for more than 1 season.

Well, so far it got great ratings on sky, and scifi allready ordered 6 scripts for a second season...
• WORFWORF The Burninator
Excellent. I guess Sky hold the fate of the show in their hands because they provide most of the funding.

Well i watched it last night, and i loved it, there are a few things i don't like, And suprisingly enough, its not Starbuck being a Woman,

I don't like the fact that Baltar looks like a cross between Dr Bashir and Jason Carter (not in the show, but in the interviews, he's a bit scruffy looking)

and just in case you haven't seen it

Mod Edit: We have the spoiler tags for a reason ;)

Spoiler: UGH, i HATE the fact that Boomer is a Cylon, I'm really hoping they continue with her being conflicted, and her turning out to be a Cylon who turns into a good guy, she's too damn cute to be a bad guy!

Also, its a little confusing, is Baltar actually working for the Cylons as in the orig series, or is he just trying to cover his own ass, i think it's the latter.

And.... Did they ever expain exactly why the Cylons came every 33 minutes?

Spoiler:
Yep, he's just covering his ass. I think there's the line in the pilot "I'm on nobody's side, I'm on my side" or something similar

Oh i will definately be watching, i really enjoyed it, i didn't think i was going to having grown up with the Orig, but i thought it was a lot of fun.

Spoiler: I think you are right about Baltar being loyal to only himself. But it would seem to me that a Cylon Detector would be in his best interests as well
• SpiritOneSpiritOne Magneto ABQ NM
well...

Spoiler: Later on he does get his detector working and identifies Boomer as a cylon, but doesnt tell her for fear she will kill him. She also tests Colonel Tighs wife, and tells everyone shes human. When 6 asks him if he told the truth, his respons is "Ill never tell..." In a rather sick sadistic way.

I think hes gone completely off the deep end, and 6 is making it happen.

in all, I think its a great show, and I hope it goes into next season. With suprnova gone, Im down to watching them on sci fi. So I have to wait about 9 weeks before I see a new one :(
• I've been using LokiTorrent and TorrentSpy, and the two combined seem to be about as good at finding stuff as Suprnova was.
• PJHPJH The Lovely Thing
I've now watched the mini-series and all of the episodes and damn this show rocks! I really hope they will keep doing this show for a loooooooooooooooooong time to come. :)

And who could've thought that some Cylon's can be so damn hot! Now where can I buy one of those Boomer and #6 models? :D

Hey Rick, that's one of my all time favourite episodes as well from the original show where Starbuck crashes on the planet and founds a crashed Cylon Viper from there. The episodes name is "The Return Of Starbuck".

I had some vague memories of that episode for almost like 20 years after seeing the original run in my country as a kid and I saw it again a few years ago and it was a great experience.

And you're right, it indeed was quite corny after all these years. :D

I gotta say that was a bit sceptical about this new show earlier, but now after seeing it I'm really glad they did it and I hope it will be a long lasting show.

One of my biggests pet peaves is a show that forsakes any semblence of logic and realism in favor of drama, and so far I have no complaints about BG, great show so far.

I love the fact that the protocol used on the bridge feels more like an actual military vessel rather than some fan-boy's Star Trek fantasy. Things like the relationship of the captain and the XO seem natural and correct. Also they seem to make logical and natural desicions, for example Spoiler: When the Olympic Carrier jumped in 33 minutes late, it was only natural to be suspicious of the ship and both the captain and the XO reached the same conclusion and both went into action.

Second thing I love is the Cylon's attacks thus far have been logical Spoiler: Such as sabotoging the Galactica's water supply. If you have a small band of humans in space with limited resources, the best way to hurt them, if you can't attack head on, is remove their water (or food).

All I gotta say is I'm really loving the new show. I used to watcth the original series although I had just about totally forgotten about it and every single episode until sci-fi started airing the old episodes again. I have to say even for its time it was pretty cool but horribly corny and simplistic in many ways. They've really made a great show with the remake that has an incredibly real feel to it. I think having stuck with a simple remake of the old concept would have just caused a dud. I really hope they don't screw it up and that the show actually clearly goes somewhere like B5 does. I don't wan't it to be another show that just gets stretched thin like Stargate and most other sci-fi shows.

Spoiler: Don't know about the 33 minute thing but I have a feeling its one of those things we'll find out about and make total sense at some point down the road, and I like that. Didn't B5 teach you anything. :D

I actually really like the Baltar protrayal. For now we just see he's a guy just trying to cover his ass, but as number 6 put it when she said something like, " the world is comming to an end and all you're worried about is what will happen to you if you get cought". The guy is so horribly selfish we don't know if he'll end up working for the cylons if thats what it takes to keep his secret.
• and i hope everyone spotted the firefly tribute in the pilot!

I saw the first ep on Saturday, and I have to say its going to be a wonderful Show..
• RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
And SciFi seems to be quite happy about it's ratings:
ScifiWire
• For those who have seen the latest, ep12 in the uk, or got it from a torrent site...

Spoiler: I just finished watching and at the end during the credits it talked about what they called the series finale and how the epic voyage was almost at an end. I hope they meant the season finale and not that the series is really almost over.
• RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
Nope, that was just that episode 13 is the last episode of Season 1, and there has been no Official Word on Season 2.
Though the consens everywhere is that if would be creatively AND comercialy stupid of SciFi NOT to do a second season (and if you read the article i linked above, you'll have read that SciFi seems pretty happy with the ratings)
• FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise
Might I remind you this is the network that canceled its highest rated show...

Jake
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
Given how these fans also revived the show they cancelled and threatened to behead those would attempt the same, I think SciFi is going to avoid pulling any tricks like that in the near future. They'd alienate the entire fanbase in no time flat.
• WORFWORF The Burninator
Also I think that the Sky One really has the power to decide the fate of the show, since they're the ones paying for it.

I don't know how much Scifi is putting towards Battlestar Galactica but I am under the impression that Sky One is providing most of the budget.

So hopefully Scifi isn't spending much money on it, so the series isn't a huge expense to them.

I will say that with the arrival of BSG and Atlantis, its nice to see SciFi moving back toward its namesake, science fiction, rather than the RUS (Rodent of Unusual Size) Movie of the Night that it has a tendency to run.

Jake
• I'm loving the new BSG...
Quite gritty and realistic drama.
It could use some better technical advising for the science in the fiction but overall it is quite good.

As an example for the episode "Water" Spoiler: I'm thinking that once water is exposed to space it would freeze, so some of it could be recovered, also when they go into the exploded tanks they should have found some ice. A simple line in the debriefing part when they say how much water they have left saying "we recovered as much as we could from the frozen debris but that still leaves us with only enough for a few days."
Additionally, with the water escaping it should have acted as a sort of rocket, moving Galatica sideways at least a little bit, I didn't notice the ship move an inch.

It is indeed good to see SciFi moving back into good science fiction instead of monster movies (which I never watch).
