That's region 1 only; last I checked, the region 2 DVDs were postponed "until further notice". They probably want to see how well the region 1 DVDs do before selling them elsewhere.

I dont really want to have to try and find all the videos...plus I dont really have room for them, neither can I buy anything online because I dont have a creditcard any my mum wont let me use hers over the net. I dont have cable so I cant get the sci fi channel and it seems unlikely that Channel 4 will show b5 again.

I think it will probably be a while before they come out outside the US myself.
I think DVD regioning is the stupidist idea the film industry ever came up with. If they released the movies everywhere at the same time or within about a week, then they wouldn't need to put DVDs into regions!

I've always wondered why the film industry doesn't release things worldwide at the same time, Very few films are done with worldwide releases, Lord of the Rings is one of the few that will have a "worldwide release, Actually the UK gets it first, on Dec 14th, the US doesn't get it till the 19th, its being released almost worldwide betwen Dec 14th and Dec 28th 2001, with only Slovenia and Italy in January, and Japan in March.

For one thing, it's a big risk. If a studio were to create enough DVDs for a worldwide release they risk losing a LOT of money if they overestimated how many they should produce. By releasing in only one region at a time, they can get a better idea of how the DVD will sell.
I'm sure there are other reasons, too (maybe dealing with how laws vary in each "region", among other things)
I would rather not have region coding, but it's there, and we have to deal with it...at least for now.
As much as I love B5 if they are only going to do 2 eps per disk and not season sets I won't be buying them 2 eps per disk is a rip off. X-files season sets 100.00 and stargate just come out with the first season set for 89.00. Cheaper to buy season sets.

Region 1 is America and Region 2 is Europe (well roughly)
In New Zealand we have Region 4 (Oceania/Australiasia, Pacific)

I have no problems with them releasing DVDs one country at a time or anything, but they don't need to do regions for that. What I don't get is why they don't release movies at cinemas all at the same time. If a cinema wants to wait and see how well it does, they can.
Regarding Lord of the Rings: It was made in New Zealand with a New Zealand production company, New Zealand director, etc, and we are still among the last to get it.

From http://www.dvddemystified.com/
There are 8 regions (also called "locales"). Players and discs are often identified by the region number superimposed on a world globe. If a disc plays in more than one region it will have more than one number on the globe.
1: U.S., Canada, U.S. Territories
2: Japan, Europe, South Africa, and Middle East (including Egypt)
3: Southeast Asia and East Asia (including Hong Kong)
4: Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Central America, Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean
5: Eastern Europe (Former Soviet Union), Indian subcontinent, Africa, North Korea, and Mongolia
6: China
7: Reserved
8: Special international venues (airplanes, cruise ships, etc.)

I worry about that one as well. I was going to buy the videos, but they come 2 episodes per box. Does anyone know where I can get season / collection box sets of videos?
If not, I can always wait in hope for DVD season sets.

Pretty much all drives sold these days are, but many can be made region-free with the help of hacked firmware. If you want a guarenteed region-free drive, then track down an Asus 8x drive.

I think WB should release season sets, like with Buffy. Its much better, works out cheaper (though initially its expensive), and the boxes always look cool. I'll be annoyed if WB don't release any boxsets for a while. I won't be buying all the episodes seperately. I suppose they'll do that to test the water and see what demand is like. I think demand will be high....

I think season sets would definitely be the best way to go. It would make more sense to sell it season by season anyway.

DVDs? What about the old video tape. The only reason I didn't snap of the four tape set of the TV movies in wide screen is that they were in England and in the PAL format. I don't see why they still use it, as NTSC is very much superior.
Sorry, I know the above a lie, and that PAL really has better color than NTSC, but more people need to be blindly patriotic.
