HL2 benchmarks are rolling in from the community.

Valve released a benchmark, a stress test, to the CS:Source beta testers. It's the Original tech demo...

first off, I've seen screens running it on a 9800 Pro, 1280x1024, max details, with AA/AF...

Spoiler for Biggles, who doesn't want to know how good this game looks.
and my GOSH this game puts everything else to shame. Graphics. Are. Stunning. Forget what you've seen in the previous screens, forget the "Low poly" and "Low Res maps" arguments...the bump mapping puts Doom3's to shame...everything..beutiful.
now, some results:

27.50 FPS.

1280x768 (16:10, widescreen)
4xAA/16xAF
All max settings
Radeon 9800 Pro.

----------------

82.26
Radeon 9800 Pro OC'ed
1280x768(no AA or AF)

-----------------------

1600x1200 4AA8AF (everything on high in the settings) = 68.8fps

Athlon64 3000
1gig @ 366
x800xt

-----------------

119fps 1280x1024 system in sig

--------------------
End result: 9800 Pro runs it smooth as silk. I saw a 9600XT score as well, it was very good as well, but since he didn't post the rest of his rig...

and the 6800 Ultra runs it well too, good to know for the NVidia fans. :D

Oh man...anticipation levels from screenshots went through the roof.

I wish I was in the Beta...

    Excellent.

    Looks really good!
Now question is can it beat Far Cry in outside levels.
  • BekennBekenn Sinclair's Duck
Hmm... come to think of it, I don't think we've yet seen any outside levels as expansive as the one in the Far Cry demo... but what we have seen of outside levels does look excellent.

not as far as FarCry, but still pretty good. :D

And very little trees and vegetation compared to Far Cry's jungles.
  • Daaaaamn that looks sweet...

Yes, but that fog effect makes FarCry look like stanke, if if HL2 has a short draw distance at least they are hidding it well and very realistically.

Th eshadowing ability still doesn't live up to Doom 3's abilityies in my mind though, but other than that:eek:

  • The main thing is, we have yet to see dynamic shadowing in HL2. some stencil shadows, yes...but otherwise..dunno.

the engine supports it. but wether they use it or not in HL2 is up for grabs.

    Haha
  • I caved in and bought a Counter Strike: Condition Zero CD Key off ebay. (LOTS of people selling them. Apparently they buy a key from valve, then sell them on ebay. <20 for a 40$ game. not bad. :) )

anyhoo, that gets me into the beta test.
    so I benchmarked it.

    1280x960, 6xT3 AA, 16x AF = ~23FPS average

    1280x960 noo aa/af = ~64 FPS.

    not bad. :)

    (Radeon 9800 Pro
    2.1 ghz Athlon XP 2600+
    768MB PC2100 DDR)
  • What does that show us? If I recall correctly, CZ is still built off of the original HL engine, just with some minor graphical improvements.
  • BekennBekenn Sinclair's Duck
Akrovah: CZ actually has no graphical enhancements, if I remember correctly; it's just a single-player version of Counter-Strike.

    However:

Those people who have CZ are also included in the Counter-Strike Source beta, which uses the HL2 Source Engine (and includes the techdemo those screenshots are from). That's what A# was benchmarking, not CZ.

  • Ahhh, Sorry. Didn't click in my mind right when I read it the first time. My bad
  • no problem mate. :)

Source runs very nicely in CS: Source BTW...

    and...I can't believe I'm saying this...

but CS: Source is fun! I'm getting owned every time I play thus far, but it is FUN! :D
  • Muhahahahaha...(Pets His X800 XT)...:D

Btw hi all....Long time no type...:)
  • CS, fun. Those are two words I never thought to hear together in a sentence. Actually, the game itself has never bothered me, it's the people that play it.
  • so far, I've run into ONE, count, ONE (1) jerk/AOL12yr old.

Not bad eh? And for the most part, even he was silent. (One 5 minute typed cursing spree...at least it wasn't voice chat. :D

and MAN I had a good game a bit ago...

    2on2 and 1on1.

    my sound setup REALLY helped.
    if you walk/creep, no footfalls.
but if you reload, switch weapons, jump, or run for a step, I'll hear it. I was placing the exact location of the guy and doubling back to get him from behind SOO many times.

and then once, I was hiding behind a crate. *Hears foot falls*
    *Silence*
    *Hears gun begin to reload*

so I jumped out from my side of the crate, and took out the guy on the other side of the crate while he was reloading. :D

I suppose I COULD have shot through the crate...but, eh. :D

    SUPAFLY!!! Welcome home man!!!!!!!

    Stay awhile this time :D
  • eh, the only way to properly play cs is on a professional tournament level. a good sound setup will be of no help for you there, you will have players that can predict anything you will/can do.

also, who needs better graphics in cs? hardcore gamers will crank down the details anyway (nothing worse than having video lag in an online fps)
