Need info on cockpit creation

Hi Roi and Buda5 guys.

We're going to be adding custom cockpits to the Star Wars MP game soon and I was wondering if the guy who modeled the StarFury cockpit could give me a heads up on what issues to expect. Things like; what scale is the cockpit modeled at, are there any special texture issues, and things like that.

Thanks. :)

You have to model the cockpit larger than the ship itself.

Have a look at this and it should give you an idea of what to do.

Just texture it as normal there is nothing special to do to it texture wise.
  • Great, thanks!

It really looks quite simple, I can't believe there aren't more cockpit mods around.

How did you originally determine the cockpit size? I noticed that it's roughly 4 meters tall. That's what, 200% scale?

There weren't any texture files (flux or otherwise) included, was this a special small download for me? (If so, thanks .) The textures on the in-game model I saw looked very well done.

Is the pilot view camera based on the pivot point? I see there are no other elements of any kind in the setup file. Also, the cockpit doesn't sit at the origin (0,0,0), how does this affect it in the game? How did you determine where to put it? Is it just located at the same location as the original cockpit? (I haven't checked that yet.)

    Thanks for the assistance. :)

There are no textures cause that was the only file i could find with the LWO file in it.

But like before there are no special techniques to texturing it just the same as the ships.

The way i found out what size to do it and where to place it was just a case of doing it once, then putting it in the game to see how it looks then re-positioning/sizing it, stick it in the game etc etc etc until it looked the way i wanted it.

But with the file you have you can use that as a template for your own ones instead of doing a lot of farting about.
  • Ok, that'll work. Thanks.
