Vets & a Decision

I've been told Jasper (cat) has got 50/50 chance if he has what can be removed (Fibrosarcoma). (Tumour)
70% of me says to try at least then I'll have tried else a few months when he's deteriorating and its too late I think I'll wish I had tried and I hate regrets. But I hate the thought of him having to stay there for 5days fed through tube. I dno't want him suffering, specially if it doesn't work.
Tube is only for 5 days so his mouth can heal properly and stop risk of infection. But even still its not easy decision to make and its £500 odd. :(
What would you do?! Or what do you think you might do?

Yes he would live a normal life once his mouth had healed. I did not think to ask the vet however if they couldn't remove all then how long he would have. I mean if its say 2yrs then not sure. But at the mo I'd be looking at 5months without any surgery. Though I guess it could still be that with surgery too. Also though I don't want them cutting too deep else it will disfigure him and he WILL be using tube every day of his life. That I couldn't do not to him or me! But they don't intend on doing that anyway less I say so.
Family thought it wasn't a big chance - like Roulette.
And oh I would definitely spoil him! I have been doing lots already, even though he is spoiled really.
:)
I'd ask the vet about the chances of secondary tumours or speading. If its a Cancer that 'seeds' to different parts of the body... euthanasia is my first choice.
You need to know exactly what sort of cancer you are dealing with.
If its a slow growing localised one then sure, surgery is good, but if not...
...dignity and a pain free death is of course the better option.
Dont be selfish, think of the animal before you think of yourself.
but I'd opt for the removal. 50/50 is fairly good IMHO.
Sarcomas are, from memory a basal cell cancer. Basal cells are the rapidly growing type, therefore when they get cancerous they become virulent and nasty cancers.

He did say it was aggressive but that it wouldn't spread to other areas of the body. And that it's slow growing. What I don't get is why its agressive if its slow growing. Anyhow I will double check everything beforehand. Did phone today but no luck in talking to him. Still I got til Monday now. Was hoping it was Friday but they made it Monday. More or less decided to go ahead with it. Lets hope I don't change my mind by Monday (cold feet or something daft). I really don't like waiting gives me too much time to hum and har! And I want to get it out the way now.
Thanks peeps.
:)
On myself.. it's another matter. I'd take the money and use it for living. Live fast. Die young. heh
Who knows. If I come out alive from Thailand, and get cancer/tumor (grandpa died of it, aunt and uncle and grandma had it but got it "fixed"), I'll prolly work for a while and save. And then go to japan, get a katana and go berserk. Or maybe USA... :P
Yea. Definitely worth the money. Hell, even I'd prolly pay for my pets operation.

Thats nice to know! :) I mean the first part! 2nd part well thats up to every individual to decide on how they want to live their life. Its best to get what you can out of life, though me I'd want to be well above all else! :)

Truth be told, I don't think I would...

Hey Exile, why sad?! Everyone has their own opinions and you're just stating yours! Much as I'm with the go for it option it kinda makes it more healthy for you to be opposite! Surprised actually that everyone else so far has been positive!
Has really helped, thanks guys.
I'll prolly get loads of negative replies now heh. ;)
nope. none here. :D

When I was 12 we saw shark meat at the local grocery store while getting ready for my birthday, and we decided to get some; I loved it, so now we always buy some shark for my birthday and cook it with some Montreal seasoning... :)

Can we get an internetese translator here, please?
What you say?!? For great justice!!! :D
The vet oh so pee'd me off today!
I was asking questions. Double checking everything on phone and he said now that it can spread to rest of body!! Well I told him that he said it wouldn't when we was there and he said he never said it!! I couldn't argue with him cos what was the point?! He'd still deny it! Anyway he was going on about it being a poor chance. :( Am so confused now!
My parents who had gone with me to the vets the other day they both remembered that he specifically said it wouldn't spread cos it was in the mouth!! What am I to do?! I'll prolly go ahead now anyway?! Its like he's got cold feet or something!!
I know he said at the time he has to be pessimistic which is fair enough, but to totally change what he did say...........??
Help! Any ideas/advice again?

I could break his kneecaps for a discount. :)
Alternatively, you could be living in a country that has been so overrun by lawyers that he doesn't want a malpractice suit if he goes ahead and it doesn't work. However, last time I checked, the UK hadn't got as bad as the US.
You mean they don't use that euphemism in NZ?
I wasn't talking about the euphemism, I was talking about the language. :)
