i thought the hyperions were around the time of the dilgar war as well, i just dont think the novas were pre-hyperion despite what that site says. anyone know any different?
• Well, this site says...

On www.b5tech.com it says that the Nova went into active service in the late 2220s prior the debut of the Hyperion.

I don't know how reliable this source is but I get the feeling that they are quite serious....

And before I forget:

That's good to know.

Can you point be to another site that is more reliable?

And yes, here it comes:

• Funny I always thought btech.com was reliable, guess not...

And of course:

I agree, they made-up the "Nova-X class Destroyer", just because some lazy CGI modeller had included Omega Class Destroyers in one of the scenes from In The Beginning.

Usually it's not the modeller who puts together the scenes....

A far better source would be anything from Agents of Gaming, at least where history is concerned. They have a few iffy ship designs, though.

and maybe the new RPG books? (don't have the EA sourcebook yet, so i can't comment on what's in there)

Edit:
btw, according to the B5 wars (2nd Ed.) Manual:
Nova made it's appearance just before the dilgar war and played a key role in Earths triumph.
Hyperion: Dating back before the Dilgar Invasion.

i always thought that the Hyperion was older than the Nova. For one thing, to me at least, the Hyperion just looks older:rolleyes:
• I hear ya man...the Hyperion class is lighter armed, and I've never seen any type of launch bay setup capable of carrying a compliment of Starfuries as large as the Novas...it is interesting, however, that 'In The Beginning' placed the Lexington (right?), a Hyperion, as the command vessel of the carrier group that Sheridan was stationed with...although to throw off the enemy, making one of the lighter ships the command ship could make some sort of tactical sense...gotta go

I think the decision of what ship in a fleet is in command of this fleet has rather something to do with the captain than with the ship...
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
hmm....both make sense. tho in this case i think its more likely its because the senior combat officer was on the Prometheus rather than on one of the novas
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Saying that the Nova must be the command ship is like saying that the most muscular guy must be in charge.
• Which ship does the commander of a carrier group normally station on? On the carrier, or one of the Battleship escorts?

As many parallels with today's military that we see in B5, I'd find a more believable explanation to be that it was more feasible tactically, to make the Hyperion the flagship...

And as for the 'biggest guy' remark...you insult my intelligence...my opinion in this (as pointless as this discussion really is in the end) relies on more than just 'the Nova is bigger'

okay, flame away, I'm not sayin anything more about this...so I don't defend against future implications;-)
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Hey dont take it personally, wasnt trying to insult you, just posting my thoughts...
• oh, okay! Nevermind then:-)

The thing really comes down to this:
Who is in command of the group.
If it's captain of a ship, he will remain on his ship, no matter if it's the flagship of Earth Force, or if its a junk hauler.
If he's an admiral or something, he has 2 choices (that most of the times will be one and the same): choose strongest ship, or the one with the best record.
• Doesn't somebody with such an advanced rank as Admiral (Or in the Case of B5, "Fleet General") get to choose what ship they travel aboard...

of course an admiral could choose another ship, but the only reason why he would do that is because of some emotional connection (used to serve on that ship, it's captain is a friend,..).
• For instance Admiral Riker's attachment to the USS Enterprise-D in the alternate future in TNG's "All good things..."
• I always though it would be neat to see G'quans story get told.
• I'd don't think that'd be enough to warrant it's own Mini-Series or film.

But if they did the "Last Great War" with Valen etc. then G'Quon would be tied into that :)
