Yeah. Or Fallout, which is a very close second.
• RubberEagleRubberEagle What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
WTF?!?!?!?!? NOOOOOO How can they do that?
And the reason beeing the cancelation of Fallout3????

This once again proves the stupidity of modern publishers... There's a fanbase outthere for Fallout (no one i asked who plays RPGs doesn't know and doesn't love fallout), and Fallout:BOS is coming out this month, so the logical path would be wait how this one sells, and if it performs poorly, THEN can Fallout 3, not NOW...

They should have done as Bioware and broken free from Interplay befor interplay went all bad.

BTW: Bioware are working close together with Obisidian entertainment on a new rpg game not yet announced. Obsidian's CEO is Feargus Urquhart who has worked in BIS and Interplay earlier and helped along many good rpg games. What I've heard some old devs from BIS is working at Obsidian, but that might not be true.

Also Bioware is working on a yet unannounced rpg.

Hopefully they can pull out something good and not a hack n' slash crap like NWN. Thank god to the NWN fans who have made to NWN some really good MP modules and new rules.

Fallout3 50% done, now shelved and the whole division layed off...
sounds kinda familiar... :(

Damn, was I looking forward to Fallout 3. Someone care to tell me where the people responsible for the cancellation live? :robot:
• The MercifulThe Merciful Earthforce Officer
Holy crap!

Altough I can't say this came out of blue: cancellation of Jefferson (an unnamed D&D game), top men like Avallone, Josh, Feargus etc. leaving and so fort.

Damn shame never the less. :(

Bah!

Pretty soon all that is left is a bunch of dumbed-down arcade shooters...:(

A large portion of the gaming market already is, and will continue to be, shooters, most of which are not in fact dumbed-down clickfests, but let's ignore that stereotype for a moment. There will always be a good market for RPGs and strategy games, and a good portion of them are actually pretty good.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I disagree that most of them arn't dumbed down clickfests. Most of them are. It's just that the good ones stand out a lot more than the masses.
• True enough, the crappy ones just get paid no attention. :)

I hope so, but i doubt it... but if it happens, i'd be surprised if it was to the better...
• MTMT Ranger
Oh man. The same day I hear they're working on Fallout 3, I also find it's been cancelled...
• I like FPSers, and have yet to even FIND a clickfest shooter. (OK, never played doom...that was prolly a clickfest)

though I never played many/liked RPGs, I don't want an entire genre to dissapear. :(

Blame it all on Vivendi. They destroyed Sierra and now Interplay (also trying to destroy Blizzard). Interplay isn't really owned by Vivendi, but they had some kind of partnership going. Befor Vivendi came into the picture of interplay they still were a big rich game company publishing good games as Freespace 1 & 2, Baldur's Gate series, Fallout 1 & 2, Sacrifice and alot more. Hopefully those people who did work at BIS will join up with Bioware or Obsidian.

Also I've heard WotC is going down because of Hasbro. Hasbro is a company makeing things for children. WotC used to make mature stuff, but now Hasbro have made WotC to control every D&D licensed product and check that it doesn't contain mature content.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Half the point of D&D is the maturity level of it.

While I agree that RPGs are much more entertaining for the thinking man, there are times when there's nothing better than ripping The Covenant into shreds with a Warthog-mounted machine gun. Sure, Halo's got nothing on anything to come out of D&D in the last , but it doesn't have a bad story...
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yeah, an FPS can be good for some stress relief.
• C_MonC_Mon A Genuine Sucker
as are "beat em up" games
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I never really enjoyed those. Too much work for basic stress relief. FPS's are just pick up gun and shoot.
• WHYWHY Elite Ranger
Now where do Deus Ex, No One Lives Forever and any Raven-made game fit into this?
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Deus Ex and NOLF fit in as 2 of the greatest FPS games in history. I'd even go so far as to put Deus Ex as among the greatest of any genre.
• Heh, I like FPS, but not JUST FPS.

Flight Sims, Space Sims, Puzzle games (Tetris even got to level 19 a few times, racing, even golf games...I play alot of different things.

RPG's take time, I love a game where I can hop in, have fun for a few minutes, and get back to work.

Young, Impudent, and Rash? I don't think anyone would ever say those apply to me. You get me mad enough (And believe me, that in and of itself would be a feat) and I might get rash. :)

Short on time...yea, thats me.

Shoot, The Longest Journey looks to be GREAT fun, but I just haven't had the time to play. :(

And just to be fair, not all FPS are all run and gun. Take Wheel of Time for example. 40 artifacts, offence and defence...that is a thinking mans FPS. Of which I was king for awhile. Though sadly haven't played in a LONG time. *Sigh* I have good memories of a match that lasted over two and a half hours. Think four flag CTF with placeable troops and defences/traps, and you are thinking of the gametype...over two and a half hours long it lasted with NO ONE scoring a point, and my team outnumbered. Run & Gun = dead in that game...plan your attacks and keep up your defences will win, but of course the enemy knows that as well...shoot, you could have 2 people engaged in a fight for 5 minutes before a victor was declared. Not to mention you had to fight off not only your main opponent, but anyone else that decided to throw a fireball your way.
Man those were the days!

I'll admit, games like UT2k3, Halo, even GTA are run and gun. Although I was pretty good about being the sniper that the enemy never saw...muahaha

As for beat em up games...not really my style. although there was a GREAT mutator that made UT2k3 players be able to punch and kick that was alot of fun, but it was simple.

Hmm...what genre does Zelda fit into anyway?
• RhettRhett (Not even a monkey)
that is utter and complete bullshit...
