• ARG!!!Don't remind me. I hate when EVERY GOD DAMN independent day there is always the same bullshit about winter war. I'm just so F'cking tired to that shit. We can't keep yapping about some war for centuries

I think it's a pretty big thing to remember. If it wasn't for the tenacity of the finns during the war, you'd all be speaking russian right now.

But since you would've been raised in a Russian society and brainwashed into believing their beliefs, you wouldn't care, would you? :)
• I'm going to a refresher course tomorrow so I'm doing my part to ensure the safety of our nation.

One week of happy camping life and leading an armoured personnel carrier and communication center in the snowy forests of Niinisalo...

Actually, I wasn't born in Finland, so most likely I wouldn't be one a' them damn reds! :D

• Do I get flamed if I say that I don't even care if we were speaking russia now?And I think it's more worthy to remember what allied forces did during the WW 2 than some winter war

Now don't get me wrong. I DON'T say that winter war wasn't that big of a deal cause the fact is that it's was basicly a miracle. I'm just saying that it's ANNOYING (my opinion!) when EVERY independent day there are those very same things about that war. Can't we just get over it.

If there is that same shit in military then I'll skip it

NOTE: By saying that I might be skipping the military I'm just annoying those who hate "sivareita"

Well, if the Reds were still around, they wouldn't still be around, because someone would've forgotten about MAD by now... :)

Not just the language. Look at the state of affairs in Russia and compare them to Finland. Then you might see what Finland might be like today if things had gone the other way. Not flaming you, of course you have the right to your own opinion. But I doubt you'd want to live under Russian rule rather than in the Finland you know today.

I'm pretty sure that in Russia there are people who are quite happy to their lives. And I'm not meaning the rich people. But honestly, I can't say for sure would I be happier if I would live under those "rules". Probable yes cause I don't need a high quality social services and the other "cool" things we have in Finland. I like to live poorly. The only "luxury" I have is a computer.
• Nothing like public health care:)....

If I remember Correctly, The "Reds" Did'nt take over finland, it was the old imperial russian goverment.

Those that don't remember their struggle for independance and the price it required... are doomed to repeat it...

Yes even us fat, lazy Americans fall under that law of nature... not enough of us truely realize it as we once did...

:(
• Canada did't get its independance threw blood shed. Exept the two rebelions in the 1830s, which lasted a week:D

English Rebelion lasted one Night.
French Rebelion lasted 6 days.

Well we wouldn't be speaking russian as Stalin planned to do the same to us as he did to the Chechens.

It's just one day. Imagine if we would have this kind of things every date when the winter war started, when it ended, when the continuation war started, when it ended and when the civil war ended. :D

That was exactly in my mind.

Generalized form is:
Those who don't remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

It's like one aviation joke:
Learn from mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make all of them yourself.

I've read newspapers and watched TV news for about thirteen years and unfortunately it looks like fery few people remember this rule.:(

Even though E.T posted some links here's a short summary of the wars Finland has fought when independent:
1918: Civil War (whites vs reds + some russian troops)
1939-1940: Winter War (vs Soviets)
1941-1944: Continuation War (vs Soviets)
1944-1945: Lapland War (vs Germans)

And the beautiful note: Even India has declared war on Finland once. :p I seem to recall it was because of our alliance with Germany in order to get troops and equipment. Ryti (president at that time) sure did sucker Hitler with that one. :p ...of course we did pay for it with the Lapland war, where the Germans used the scorched earth -tactic as they retreated.
