P2P connection problems, help :(

Hey all, hope someone of you know a lot about these things, cause I need some help. 2 weeks ago, I got a new cable connection, I had 1Mbit, now I have 2Mbit (new modem too).
Anyway, the first week everything was fine, it all worked but ever since last friday, I just can't d/l anything from P2P progs anymore. DC++ and Kazaa both lets me d/l at a speed of say max 7kb/s instead of the usual 150-250kb/s.
When I surf the internet and d/l stuff from there, it's all fine, as it is with bittorrents for those of you who knows what that is.
Anyway, appreciate some help with this, kinda important.

I asked someone if that coulc be a prob when d/ling from a program I use and he said yes. Now I gotta figure out how to get those UDP unfiltered, suggestions?
For that matter, nab the latest version of Kazaa Lite K++, which will disable the normal port being used (1214) and will let you pick whichever port you want to use. (Yes, I know you've been able to do that for a while, but its more intuitive for the n00bs.)
Does your modem have any kind of filtering capability?
I know how to use a certain port manually but I have no clue on how to know which port is open and as I mentioned in the earlier post, a port scan showed that all UDP ports were filtered and I have no idea why and how to fix it.
Can you connect to any FTP servers? If not, call up your ISP and tell them to unblock ports 20 - 22. Then tell your p2p program of choice to use port 21. Just don't use it alot or they may get suspicious. Just use it about as often as you would an actual FTP client.
Frankly, I am damn afraid to install anything on one of my systems created and deployed by folks already operating in a "grey" legal state.
Kazaa seems to be popular, and Kazaa lite is supposed to be without trojans, etc, correct?
One of my favorite things about torrent is the openness of the groups who create and maintain the software. Free (Libre) Software is the right place for OS, infastructure, and security software; basically anything that anyone else needs to trust the author(s) for. Free to see, inspect, and validate. "Trust but verify."
You just can't do that with Kazaa, MusicMatch, etc.
Your problem: port blocking.
Another way to go would be to look for a TCP wrappered version since only the UDP packets appear to be getting blocked... (I know that isn't much help, but there it is)
:shadow1:
Cheers for the help guys, it turned out to be a problem with the server. The ISP had misconfigured it somehow and that's what caused my problem :D
