Matrix: Revolutions (SPOILERS)
A2597
Fanboy
in Zocalo v2.0
Well, seeing as how I have a huge gap between classes, the movie theater is a block away from campus, and there was a showtime that fit inside that gap, I went to see Matrix today.
Overall, good movie; but left some big holes in I think.
*LET THE SPOILERS BEGIN*
First off, OK, theirs peace, any human that wants out of the matrix is allowed out, prolly meaning free roaming between real world and the matrix. Fine, thats explained...
how is this better for the machines then just wipeing out the resistance?
What did Neo manage to do that allowed him to beat smith?
there are other things, all of which could have been fixed in a five minute talk between Morpheus and a sentinal, or some other machine...*sigh*

*SPOILERS*
In all, I thought the film was F*CKING GREAT, a special effects tour-de-force the likes I've NEVER seen before. The CGI is mind-blowing and it's increadible that the guys who created them could concentrate on every small detail like that.
The battle at The Dock is nothing short of pure KREIG. It's like the firing line at Mons multiplied by 1000. I'd go and see the film again JUST for that action sequence, which ranks as one of my favorite of all time. (At times I felt like doing "the horns" or screaming "TIME ON TARGET!!!" or "AVE IT!!!" as they poured it on.)
As for the ending, it wasn't as conclusive as I wanted it to be, and wasn't in the Wachowski Brothers' true style of a black and white conclusion. Frankly, I never expect a peace between humanity and the machines, but there you go. Perhaps it leaves room for fanfics or maybe an Anime series?

1) WTF
2)?!?!?!?!
3) i need to go think about it
4) atleast they did away with the powerade commercial at the beginning. Oh wait that was during the trainman scene...
Just got back. That ruled! The Battle for the Dock was simply amazing.
A#:
The Architect said that all humans would be free. He didn't say anything about a choice. Besides, the Matrix is pretty much destroyed by Smith.
Regarding the decision of the Machines...they really picked the lesser of two evils (from their side). It was either be destroyed by Smith or co-exist with the humans.
I felt the dock fight was the best part but the ending left me with no answers at all. I felt that it was obviously left open for a sequel.
the death of trinity and neo was contrieved and not at all emotional or shocking.
There were way way way too many holes in the story for anyone to truly follow it. too many how did he or they.......
doesnt make sense at all.
Despite the fact they spent almost no time IN the matrix, the action sequences were well done. However, again, entirely predictable and without...... substance.. i thought anyways. i mean yea it was cool FX, but that was about it.
I thought trinity dieing was... pointless. i thought blinding neo was pointless. The final fight scene was cool, but i dunno. it's kinda like going to the vending machine, pressing coke, and getting a dr. pepper. I really thought the way the machines just stopped fighting and now all of a sudden there's peace was just... stupid. they honored the agreement!?!? WHY!?
so is neo dead? do we REALLY know the answer to that? i mean smith took him (and his code) and that was how the machine guy was able to go thru neo and fuck up smith.. but does that mean neo's dead? we see him being taken away but we never see what happens, and the oracle says we'll see him again...
what happens next? do the machines help us now? are we on our own just not hunted down? I dunno... i was unsatisfied... i guess babylon 5 spoiled me...

The problem with your question is that your assumption is most likely wrong.
The way I saw it, the machines agreed to give everyone in the Matrix a choice to leave or stay. I don't think they would let people roam back and forth between the two worlds.
Basically, the machines benefit because they don't have to protect themselves from having their power sources stolen.

What did Neo manage to do that allowed him to beat smith?

Here's the way I interpreted it: Since Neo was jacked into the matrix directly from the Machine City, the leader of the city was able to infect Agent Smith once he tried to infect Neo.
Now to the real topic is anyone going to pay for the Matrix Online?
There are many Star Wars fans who completely reject episodes 1 and 2 as being part of the saga, and rightly so. I'm highly tempted to follow the same route with the Matrix. Are there others who feel the same way about going down this "orthodox" route?

nyeah...
I'm in agreement, the origenal was the only matrix movie. The other two are...not. :)
not gunna buy them, thats for sure.
"Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!!
What just happened, was this it!?"
I mean this was the worst of the trilogy as the two others were excellent!
You just can't put some semi-deep plot into a no-brainer action movie!!
The acting was poor as it really came evident due to lack of action.... well excluding one, SMITH!! Agent Smith rules!!! :shadow1:
The effects were good and the APUs were nice in the dock battle (as I`m a little MW fan :D) but you would`ve thought that Zion had better defence. I mean you`re in a state of war, you make guerilla action in the enemy`s territory, of course they are going to come sooner or later.
And doesen't an EMP fry a circuit as it seemed it just emptied the machines out of power in the movie?

Cool, that's one person swayed to the faith of "Orthodox Matrixism". ;)

The action just wasn't logical to me. Sure there were millions of bullets in the air and the cgi was good. But The machines had no tactical sense. The "bazooka dudes" should've loaded their weapons before exposing themselves. etc
And IMHO the APU design was stupid. The driver didn't have any protection or aiming assistance (for example some kind of HUD would've been great).
Or maybe I've seen Starfurys and Omegas too often :D
As far as the actual plot line tho,i don't really think it could have been done a lot better than it has, even tho as it is,it leaves alot to the imagination and forces you to think as all the details aren't explained in a clear enough manner.
May be way off base here, but i got the impression that on the third movie, the war was focused on Zion only to ultimaly force Neo to go to the machine city and confront Smith which had grown beyond the machines control and was a much bigger threat than humans would likely ever be,reason for why the machines agreed to Neo's terms..
I mean the planet is essentially dead and humans are forced to live underground, resources are likely fairly scarce and it took 100 years for Zion to have 250 000 people living there, while the matrix is composed of billions, and the vast majority don't even wish to leave it at all as they're accepting the matrix program in the first place....The human resistance was only focusing on freeing those that were having difficulty accepting the program, nothing more.
One thing me and my friends were talking about after seeing it... the name, Revolutions, would seem to hint at more than one. After Reloaded we believed that the title would prove to refer to the other definetion of revolution, and that what the Architect said about the Matrix being an endless cycle was to be the central focus of the final movie, but obviously, we were wrong.
Also, I cannot express enough my relief that there was not, in fact, a Matrix within the Matrix, like everyone thought there was. Though my friends found the simple explanation that Neo's powers are carried over from The Matrix, I found it acceptable. But really, if there had been a Matrix within the Matrix, it would've turned the plot to hell, because how could they EVER know that they were not, in fact, inside another Matrix? I can just picture a scene with Neo being unplugged into some random "reality," thinking What the hell, only to be unplugged into an even stranger "reality." Hell, we don't even know that they aren't inside yet another at the end of Revolutions...
Regarding The Dock: Yeah, it's not realistic or practical to build APUs with no protection for the driver... but it's a MOVIE. It doesn't exactly ruin the plot if the machines are designed more for the cool factor than for real-world practicality. Besides, when you've got a many-clawed metal squid clinging to you, an inch of metal won't stop it from getting to you. The APUs looked pretty cool, and that whole battle was totally insane. The only thing that seemed odd to me was that so few Sentinels fell out of the hole after the Human ship... seems like there was maybe a hundred left. But... yeah. Oh, and one thing I think that could have been cool, would be to really show the scale of the battle... those drills were obviously pretty massive, but when they were falling, you really couldn't tell. I mean, Zion must be miles across, and the Dock Wall must be pretty thick... the Sentinels should have been ants in comparison. But... whatever, it still rocked.
As for everyone's reaction to the movies, I think a big part of the problem is that the first movie was made to have a distinct beginning middle and end, in case it was recieved poorly. Once the Wachowski's knew that they had enough fan support to make a full trilogy, they made the other two, and while good, they relied on one another to make any sense. You could understand The Matrix the first time you watched it (though I caught many subtle things during my second watch, after seeing Reloaded), whereas Reloaded left a whole crapload of plot strings open, and Revolutions felt like just an ending, not a full movie. As a trilogy, they are a brilliant masterpiece IMO, but as single movies, I agree, the original was undoubtedly the best. The Matrix 1 was without a doubt one of the better movies I have ever seen, and, while I did enjoy Reloaded and Revolutions immensely, they didn't have quite the same brilliant pace as their predecessor.
Regarding every complaint about the scientific problems: IT'S A MOVIE. I mean, they were small things, and at least they were at least plausible to the average mind. It's like that movie Core, about restarting the spin of the Earth's core.... total scientific BS, but still a gripping plot for your average person. Really, if you're going to be that nit-picky, there are bigger issues that require the suspension of your disbelief.
I think it would have been interesting if Neo was in fact a program, with basically the purpose that The Architect told him he had: to give the Humans hope, make them believe, when in reality, they were just caught in a forever-simulation. Unfortunately, that would not please the audience, who just so happens to be Human.
And the most brilliant line of the movie that I can think of...
The Architect: What do you think I am? Human?
Fvcking loved it.
Now... questions.
The entire fight between Neo and Smith was unspeakably awesome (although the whole "blowing away the rain from the force of impact" thing got old after a couple times, and it would've been cool to watch the entire city being destroyed as they fought), but what the heck happened?
1) Agent Smith: Mr. Anderson! Welcome back, we missed you. Like what I've done with the place?
Neo: It ends tonight.
Agent Smith: I know it does, I've seen it. That's why the rest of me is just going to enjoy the show because we already know that I'm the one that beats us.
I assume that he learned something of the future from assimilating The Oracle, thus making him cocky, but how did he lose?
2) The Humans are free now. How will the Machines survive? I had a theory about building above the cloud layer, but the intense lightning would probably pose a problem. Plus, it would take time. Perhaps Neo contained so much power within him that it was all they needed? The fact that Neo's powers exist outside The Matrix (albeit to a lesser extent) shows that there are supernatural aspects to the movie (or at least, heavy doses of Nietzschian philosophy... "overman," anyone?), so it's possible. The Oracle and Architect hinted that the peace was not permanent, so perhaps it will only last until Neo's energy is expended?
More to come...
Also, I cannot express enough my relief that there was not, in fact, a Matrix within the Matrix, like everyone thought there was. Though my friends found the simple explanation that Neo's powers are carried over from The Matrix, I found it acceptable.
I guess no one thought about WMatrix :D

Well the APUs in Animatrix had cover for the driver :p
All the ships used in the war were built several hundred years ago. Could it be said the same for the APUs?
the only possible excuse for it perhaps is vision... completely unobstructed so you can target the squidz....
Because the REAL Source (The Wachowskis) thought it looked cool.

You're actually competely correct on all those points, there. :D
However, you still can't beat the "Kreig-ness" of the entire action sequence.

The APUs in the Animatrix were built with state of the art human technology using the vast amount of resources available to the military at that time. Zion had far less to work with in making their APUs in both senses.
