Ships with spinning parts.

I have the Babylon 5 station, both versions, the Omega destroyer with turret fighters, and the Omega-X destroyer, and the B5 stations have unreliable rotation motors. sometimes they spin, sometimes they don't. Does anyone have any ideas why? I've used the upgrade patch and had the stations installed and activated for the entire game. I've reached around mid-act 2, and the station is still acting up. The destroyers I mentioned earlier always spin, but I think they spin faster as I come out of a jump point, which is odd. I love Buda5 and look forward to future releases.

The bug with the rotating sections is known to us, but we haven't been able to pinpoint the cause yet. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. So the destroyers work? At least the old destroyers used to have the same problem, perhaps you've just been lucky. However, if they really do work every time then thats something we should look into...
  • I have only tested the two Omega variants I mentioned, but I've downloaded the asimov liner and the other Omega destroyer, the one without the turret fighter option. I'll test those two tomorrow. That's all the ships I know of that rotate for gravity that you've released. Aside from EarthForce One and Explorer class ships, do any of them rotate?

it all has to do with the flux game engine. it was never designed to have THAT many ships/stations with moving parts. it can't keep track of them. plus u also have to understand how the flux engine works. the 'universe' is only awake (meaning things are actually happening) in about a 400Km radius around the player's ship... everything beyond that is paused. so once u leave and b5 gets out of that radius, flux stops the station... when u come back into that radius, it may or may not pick that rotation back up... depending on how many other calculations it's doing.

reason a ships isn't affected is b/c they litterally move into that radius, so they start rotation first off (i.e. it's the first time flux was told to rotate that object. it almost always gets the first time right) and chances are u'll never see that same ship again cause it's either gonna get blown up or u'll leave and not come back....

as i said, u just have to understand how flux works.
  • I've tested every ship I can find that spins, they all work perfectly. B5 is still stuck sometimes, but I think it usually spins when I fly there rather than use the dock auto from a distance. On the other hand, I've only used the ships for myself, and haven't seen any flying around under computer control.
