How to get over 590K of free memory with win98?

And 3mb of free EMS memory too.

I dont have any original DOS, and the one with windows 98 ain't working.

Started playing my old games before sellin' 'em. And I'd definitely want to play Dreamweb. It's the best. :)

Oh yeah, I'd also need to get my cd-rom and mouse and soundcard working.

It's supposedly easy. But I've damn all forgotten how to.

Closest thing I've gotten so far, was 581K of free memory, and that was without soundcard or cd-rom. Or mouse. :)

    MS-DOS 6.22 boot disc. You can find plenty of images for them with google, then just hack the autoexec.bat and config.sys to your needs.

    Where'd I get a dos 6.22 boot disk?

    I did a search for dos 6.22 etc. when i started trying it first time, but couldn't find anything usefull. No porn though, but still.

    Oh well. gotta try again today.

    I got 540K free memory with that, and only my a: drive and the cd-rom worked.

    Anyway.. it wasnt totally unusefull, I think I'll be going to get the cd-rom from that to work on my home-grown bootdisk.

    But still.. there's that darn few k of memory I need. :/

    Like I said, you need to hack the autoexec.bat and config.sys to your needs. You should also put memmaker on it and run it.

    Refa, I've probably got every copy of DOS from 3.3 up. :p Hell, I had to dig out a 6.22 disk because none of the windows startup disks had attrib on them! (lazy bastards! Thats one of the most useful command line tools of all! Its not like it eats up alot of space....) If you need a copy of a bootdisk, let me know.

    Win98 likes to add a few things to the startup list; try using step-by-step confirmation (hit F8 right when it says "Starting Windows 98...") and be sure not to allow things that aren't in your config files. I can usually get it up in the 600's somewhere, with mouse but no CD.

    If you feel like it, post your config files and I'll see what I can do.
