Theoretically, autofocus shouldn't have any trouble with a reflective surface. It focuses on what it sees, not based on physical distance to an object. So if you take a photo in a mirror, it just focuses on twice the physical distance.
And, yeah, unless there's something on the mirror that the camera focuses on instead, autofocus can't tell the difference between a reflection and distance for obvious reasons.

Phase detection of SLRs works differently so I'm not sure about that.
