Well if you get a chance then.... since you live in the city.
Some of my favorite places , Da Nico on Mulberry my absolute favorite place in Little Italy, Chinese, Either Peking Duckhouse on Mott (they do a spicy prawn dish that is to die for, and of course, great duck) or this weird place for Dim Sum, Triple Eights, its literally underneath the manhattan bridge, above some sort of chinese mall, Kick ass food.
For indian, Forget about Little India, great food on 6th ave, but not as good as Haveli, its on 2nd ave between 5th and 6th, the lamb madras is so spicy, it melted my spoon! heh
oh and mexican, los mariachis on Coney Island Ave in Brooklyn is great.
now i'm drooling, i must go out for pizza...
Also, we were down in florida for a look.. ;)
Have fun!
whats the price range for all these places?
The most expensive is most likely Triple 8's, each dim sum dish itself is cheap, $2-$3 each, but you end up getting 20 different things, lol.
Out of the rest Haveli is prolly around $15-20/person, they are all farily reasonably priced (for NYC)

Oh and if you want cheap, good and funky, Two Boots, 32 Ave A. some of the best pizza in NYC.
Me and my parents did that coastal trip last time we were in the states. Except we were closer to the coast the whole way. Our relatives are in Columbia, SC and Atlanta, Georgia respectively, and we travelled from NYC.

I"m about 500 miles northeast of NYC, so that adds a bit to the trip.
I've been to Columbia SC before, nice place.
