So here's a re-cap of the Road Trip of Doom!
Monday: I went to class and then hopped on the LIRR with my backpack and suitcase towards Cold Spring Harbour, LI where I went to Andy’s house and met Brad for the first time. We stayed the night there and then took off
Tuesday: morning. When I usually do a road trip with my family, everyone is up at the crack of dawn and usually on the road at like 7am, we were a little different with our getting up at 9am and leaving at 11am. We had a power inverter that plugs into the cigarette lighter which was supposed to power our laptops but it when we tried it in the Crown Vic that we were driving in, it didn’t work. So we had to switch off draining the three laptop batteries we had for music and didn’t get to watch anything but it was still a a pretty quick drive up I-95 to Bangor, ME where we stayed at a Howard Johnson hotel getting a severely reduced rate thanks to a friend of my sister. We went to the Olive Garden and then bowling/arcade playing with a friend of mine from high school, Chris, and then went back to the hotel. Andy drove from Cold Spring Harbour through Connecticut (where there is apparently a Tim Hortons now!) and until our first stop outside of Boston. After that I took over driving and drove all the way to Bangor and around town in Bangor since I am very familiar with it.
Wednesday: morning we woke up at 9am again, got some b-fast to go from the hotel restaurant, went to a local Radio Shack to see if we could try and fix the power inverter (which failed, we thought it was a fuse but couldn’t find the fuse box and then thought it might be the inverter) I was driving again and I drove through the number 9 highway and to the border. We got asked the standard questions and then we had to go inside because apparently Andy is a terrorist or because he has a long, middle eastern last name or because it was ‘random’ (in the at least 20 times I’ve gone over that border, we’ve never been asked to go inside) or something. They looked over our stuff and in the trunk to make sure we weren’t hiding hookers or something in there and then we were on our way. We stopped at the Tim Hortons just the other side and then Andy picked up driving until Sussex, New Brunswick where I picked it up again for the final stretch to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. We also gained an hour by switching into the Atlantic Time Zone. My Mom and grandparents were waiting for us in NG, she made us rigatoni which was awesome. We then unpacked our stuff and broke out my Wii and had fun playing that with Trev when he came to my house after work.
Thursday: We woke up later around 11am because we stayed up late playing Wii. I drove around town showing different points of interest. I had Acropole Pizza (my fave) and showed them Fraser’s Mountain, downtown etc… We also visited my Nana Rena and then joined my Dad for my half brother Joey’s hockey practice. Trev came to my house again after work for more Wii playing and movie watching.
Friday: We got up around 11am again, we visited with my Nanny and Puppy and then went to Green Hill to take pictures (and also where I became a member of the Sith and also force choked Brad), then we went to the Thistle for supper and went candlepin bowling. We then went to Trevor’s house where there was Skype talking across the pond, Wii playing and Simpsons watching. Andy got some nice pics of the stars out at Trev’s house too as well as some night shots of my street when we got home.

Saturday: My Mom made us French toast and then we took off around 1:30pm for Halifax. I drove while Andy, Brad and Trev and Andy listened to music via the laptops. Our first stop was Lee’s house for a couple hours where we played Wii before we went to Maxwell’s Plum. Now as you all know, I put a couple notices up for this meeting but I only expected a few people to show up- OMG! 23 people showed up just for me! Including: my sister Janet, Shannon, Kelly, JuJu, Lenny, Nathan, Sean, Sara, and many many more! I was soo floored I almost cried! Thank you soo much everyone for coming! I couldn't have asked for a better night! After the Plum, Shannon, Lenny, Nathan, Dan and I went to the Sea Horse to see a band called Caledonia that Shannon’s cousin plays in and then we hit up Reflections. Andy, Brad, Lee, Trev and Andre went back to Lee’s place to play Wii some more. I had much alcohol and an awesome time was had by all.
Sunday: We went to Jack Astor’s for lunch in Bayer’s Lake after getting back together (I had stayed the night at Shannon’s house) and then we checked out some shops in Bayer’s Lake before going back to New Glasgow. Trev stuck around for Sam’s pizza and hanging out while we slowly packed our stuff and got ready to leave the next day.
Monday: I drove all the way to the border but not without excitement! We met up with my sister in Truro around 11:30am so she could tag along to Bangor with us. She put her stuff in our car and then her friend drove off. 10 mins down the road she realizes she’s left her purse in her friend’s car and so we have to track her friend down. Between that and going to Canadian Tire and food, we didn’t end up leaving Truro until 1:30pm. The good thing about that was though, while waiting for Janet’s friend, Andy read the manual for the car, found the fuse box on the driver’s side and found a fuse that was slightly broken (we had found the fuse box before but it didn’t look broken) and when we replaced it, the inverter worked! I drove all the way to the border where we got searched again. Andy picked up driving from the no 9 highway to Bangor where we decided to just chillax at the hotel before heading out the next day.
Our last day of driving, Tuesday, started out around 11am again, and went fairly well, we had some rain since about the second half of New Brunswick but it was fine. We had a Babylon 5 marathon now that we had laptop power and watched 8-9 episodes by the time we got back to Cold Spring Harbour. This drive was also a little different because instead of going all the way through Connecticut, we took the ferry from New London to Long Island and then just drove an hour back to Andy’s house. It was a nice ride and good to not have to deal with NYC traffic at night.
Over all, the road trip was really great. I was glad to have made it home even though it was only a short time. I was glad to be able to share people and places with my new friends and share my new friends with the people and places I love. Now I have my first final in a week and I will be back home in exactly 3 weeks for Christmas. I really should figure out what I am doing for the 3 weeks I have off in January, I’d love to go to Europe… we’ll see.
I know why you avoided Connecticut. Sniff.
I didn't know you lived in CT!? Where do you live?
Southwestern corner on the New York border. Beneath Danbury, if that means anything to you. It's a terrible place.

Boo! Why didn't you say anything when we said we were driving up!? We totally stopped in CT at a Tim Hortons and would have gone to meet you! We went up I-95 but that doesn't look too far from where you were.
Actually, I didn't have a car until today, so I don't really know where I could have met you guys. My situation living here is.. complex. And very bad. Doubt anything would have really worked out.
Maybe the next time you're out this way or I'm down in NYC. I think I'm only an hour away from you, anyway. Don't think Sanfam's too much farther.

Sanfam is 6 hours away from NYC, prob like 4-5 from you... yeah if you are in the city, I'd love to meet up with you!
This sucks.. we were trying to meet up with Entil'zha too and that didn't work out... bah!
And, yeah, maybe the next time I'm in NYC, though when I'm there, I don't usually have time free. Maybe we can figure out something in particular some time or set up some sort of NE Firstones meetup.
So does Queens! That was not informative!
Dax lives on Long Island, the part named Brooklyn.. Sanfam lives on Long Island the part called Huntington... :P
6 hours from NYC. Damn..
I never seem to realise how long long island really is..
6 hours from NYC. Damn..
No no, Sanfam goes to school in Rochester which is 6 hours from where he lives on LI... he lives (Huntington) approx 1 hr from me in Brooklyn
Now the world is round again.. ;)
The world is NOT A D10 damnit!
duh! it's a D20!
No! that means WoTC runs the world!? isnt enough that they have taken over all the RPGs?
While the OGL material is up for grabs, WotC retains the rights to the D20 trademark and such and can revoke it at any time, so if you want to market your book as "D20 system" you gotta dance to WoTC's tune,
plus rember all OGL books still require you (in theory) to buy the D&D 3rd base book, and maybe even the GM book.
All in all I gerenaly dislike the D20 system, and how it got "universalized" the D20 system just doesnt work for high tech campaigns, not as compared to how systems like Cyberpunk, Shadowrun, Milleniums End or the Silloute system work.
Lastly D20 so over crowded the market that it has nearly killed off all 4 of the systems I mentioned, Milleniums End never got a chance to get going really, and the last three are just kinda hanging on.
Note that I never claimed WoTC produced quality work ;)
Magic the Gathering was good back in the day, before the started fucking with the rules and such..
Shut up, grandma.
