Anyone here know about antique militaria?

ArethusaArethusa Universal Cathode
I recently bought a WW2 US Army overcoat in the 1943 style. Unfortunately, I don't know much more about this sort of thing and have no idea how to date it precisely or what it's worth. If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it.

Yeah, I tried that. I found three forums for antiques that looked potentially decent, but most websites were awful and useless. I'll post on those as soon as my new camera comes.

In the meantime, I'm hoping someone here is into this stuff. Or wants to offer me a pile of money for this coat.

ebay is a good place to do a bit of research i've found. have a look for any similar coats and watch them in your myebay bit to see how much they go for

The problem is that mine is literally in perfect condition. I'm quite certain it's never been worn, and my suspicion is that either it was made for someone who then shoved it into storage and died or was made towards the end of the war in small quantity and was just never sold. eBay is really bad for consistently valuing stuff like that.

    Tyvar's probably your best bet.
  • lol why don't you try working?

granted it sucks to have shitty jobs but it feels good to be able to cash the check.

The worst job I ever had was Sam Goody (Retail Chain that collapsed this year THANK GOD!) All I did was stand around pointing people to music and dvds. And since some people are retarded and don't know what they are looking for you have to tell them what they are looking for. $6 bucks an hour made $1000 after 3 months of work there. *clap* *clap* retail!

My suggestion do telemarketing you sit in a chair get paid an hourly wage, if your good you get commisions and bonuses. If not you can always take it out on your victim.

Fairfield Financial probably the worst most corrupt mortgage refinancing firm you can work for. Paid me a wage of $5 hour but if I got three SSNs in a day I got a $25 dollar bonus on my daily wage. The best part though was some of the responses you get. "Are ya crazy boy?". "NO speaky speaky english." "My wife is such a bitch she fuckin handles this shit talk to her." "Hi this is Donny and MARIA! Were probably out right now doing HA..Ha... who knows what! Leave a message...AND WELL GET BACK TO YOU." "This is the house of Temay and Moran Jackson Jesus Loves you!." "Im tracing your number right now. Yep its coming up just a few more seconds."

Arethusa: You can probably find somewhere around you that gives free appraisals sometime during the year. PBS has one, and I know locally our city has run a session with appraisers. The idea is that if you take in a couple of things and get them appraised, and the auction house(s) that sponsored it might get an occasional item out of the list to sell for the guests. They limit the number of items, but you should be able to get what that thing's worth. Just keep your eye open and you will probably stumble upon something.
