I'm right on the brink of purchasing some more ships to work with. I just constructed two stations (Solar M in Argon prime, Crystal Fab in Ore Belt) so my resources are primarily directed there. Of course, a sudden Kha'ak attack in ore Belt ruined my fun so I think I'll be investing in that nova :P
I'm a little bit grumpy
one of my best traders, a Mercury Hauler with all the goods, apparently died with no good explaination over an hour and a half ago (game time) and took with it 7m in wares. No explanation, meaning it likely crashed into a rock somewhere. Any idea why this game hates me so much?
I got 9 UTs and 2 STs now, so starting to get stuff up. now if they only would level up so they can find better deals. But I don't like traveling from Argon space to Terran space. There's one sector of shit big enemy ships in the middle. So allways fun trying to get past them without death.
I've salvaged the Pericles Vanguard in the sector west of the one called Unholy Descent and sold it at the next shipyard. As you may assume, it wasn't much of a ship to speak of, at least judging by its name, I was somewhat disappointed.
I've got still two ships on my to-do list, a Mako Raider and a Falcon Sentinel. The Mako is closest.
I've figured out a bit more about the color codes for the weapons and how they tell you what you can mount where. It's a bit annoying to have to hunt down those guns. But I guess that's part of the exploration process. Once I've explored the entire universe, I'll have a much easier time getting around.
I also like how you can group your guns and select them according to the situation at hand. Very professional. :D If you fire them all at once all the time, you'll soon run out of energy and then you'll be left spitting at your opponent, but if you group your guns, you can switch to the ones you haven't used yet and then there'll be no critical pause in your assault and you won't be left vulnerable until the firing banks (I'm making up stuff as I write this as all banks get discharged regardless which guns you fire, so what's the point....) recharge. :D
There was a Ka'ak battalion doing some "military exercises" in the Emperor Mines sector and for the fun of it I just attacked one of their Destroyers. Well, as expected, I wasn't much of a challenge. Since the Ka'ak ships fire beam weapons, they slice through your shields in no time and once those are down, they cut you up like a roasted turkey. Not much fun to be had there.
Even the tactical computer was of no help here, it didn't even get to fire off a single shot. Kinda sucks to be still at the bottom of the food chain at this point.
At least I am in a position to be able to get anywhere I want to go and have a fighting chance to get through a hostile sector. Even if I have to take evasive actions just to get from one gate to the next. I've also noticed that there are indeed a few pirate bases that aren't hostile towards me. I'll check them out later once I've explored the universe.
The good news is, X3:TC is in transit and should arrive in the mail some time next week. Apparently they've optimized the engine to be less of a system hog. I hope it is.
I still only have a single freighter with a sector trader who's now stuck at level 10. The universe trader option is still grayed out for me and I have no idea what I need to do to start an automatic trade run between sectors. My trading rank seems to have reset for no apparent reason. I was an Entrepreneur and now I'm a modest Merchant. Unless I got the ranks wrong, it seems like it looped back on itself and started over.
No pathfinding issues in X3:R for me. I've noticed that the tactical computer is no good when you are trying to attack a foe while you are flying inside an asteroid field. So you have to dogfight manually. I did crash once into an asteroid while the tactical computer tried to attack a Ka'ak recon vessel while I was at the helm of my Toucan hauler. But then I didn't have all the upgrades installed. Don't know if it would happen again now.
X3:TC arrived in the mail today... so I'm going to check it out soon.
I've salvaged the last of the ships, a Falcon Sentinel large fighter. It's a bit slow but other than that it's actually quite good (with a 125MJ shield). Don't know yet if I should sell it and get the 2M credits to invest in my next cargo hauler.
The question really is, is it worth continuing X3:R and consider it a tutorial to X3:TC?
I'll see how well TC runs on my hardware first before I make up my mind.
regarding rank, have you been letting the game idle with SETA on? Apparently, if you just let it run with SETA and ignore it, your ranks will decline. I'd suggesting finding a mod to change that.
Myself, I'll note my combat rank decline rapidly while running with SETA, but my trading rank shoots through the roof with 6-10 Universe Traders going crazy. :D
