Anyone else playing this game? It frigging ROCKS.
Totally freeform, do anything gameplay. They just plop you in the middle of an active universe and let you find your way. :)

Also, I require realistic physics and combat. I suspect I will be disappointed.
As for realistic physics and combat, no not quite, its not Wing Commander, but its not IFH level.
Sides its not like there is a terribly realistic space game out there, I think the Best was Rules of Engagement 2.
What makes the game in alot of ways is the trading model is fairly advanced, there actually is an "economy" with other traders moving goods around, so some times you got your spiffy cargo load and show up at the place to sell it for a super price, only to discover somebody else beat you to it.

I'll get to X3 when I can get my hands on a starforce-free copy. I'm still working my way through X2 anyway.
There are some awesome ship packs with BSG and B5 ships. (HIGH quality ones that make my jaw drop...looks like from the show in some cases!)
In some cases...the graphic are better than B5 graphics...on par with BSG. It's insane.
Gameplay is...do whatever the hell you want. Confusing at first, but soooo fraking cool once you get into it.
That is of course you want to go the non steam method ;)
But still I recommended X3 to everyone.
One guy goes pirate hunting, and slowly damages their ships until the pilot ejects. Then he captures the pirate in his cargo hold and sells him into slavery, and captures the ship to sell where ever he can.
Another had planned a take over of the Argon Government, buy cutting off the supply of solor cells. Then once that happened, he was going to launch multiple strikes agains the Argons, as they would be unable to repair/build new ships and weapons. :D

I tried the X3 rolling demo but it seemed very jittery. I tried it on the highest AND lowest resolution, but the jitters occured at the exact same points. EH?

It has a plot, you can play it, it tells you what you need to do and when.
Or you can ignore the plot and make lots of money and aquire a couple dozen destroyers!
