    Actually, the original meaning is closer to luck. At least from the sources I have read.

    The swastika comes from Hinduism and Buddhism. In Hindu it apparently represents the Sun (and thus the necessities for life). Buddhism inherited it from Hinduism, and it generally means the Buddhist concept of harmony. Since the rise and fall of Nazism, swastikas outside of Hindu are now generally drawn mirrored. If you do any travelling in Asia, you'll see both normal and mirrored swastikas all over the place, as they are used not just on temples but also to represent vegetarian restaurants and food.

    I learnt all about this from the Lonely Planet guide to Taiwan a few years ago, and a good thing to or I would have got a bit of a shock just an hour after landing in Taiwan. :D

    I remember a big deal made in one of the more recent winter olympics, one of the interview had a temple in the background with the symbol and people made a very big fuss over it.

    Anyway, I think most every culture in existence had one form or another of the swastika. Most Native American cultures have it, as did Celtic cultures, african cultures... et cetera.

    Odd, at original size it looks like a 5, and at 200% it looks like a 3...

    Ahem, let's tone down the monkey slander, shall we?

    Its a historical fact that while there were many human Nazi's, there are no recorded simian members. In fact, monkeys did not participate in any of the German agressions, nor were they involved in any of the Axis atrocities, except as innocent bystanders in some of the African campaigns, and as unwilling test subjects in some of the Nazi experiments.
