On Wednesday, I packed everything and and got on a flight to JFK. Nine cramped, sweaty hours later, I ran through subways, got screwed with an expensive metrocard, missed my train, took the next one, got stranded in South Norwalk, and had to wait an hour and a half to be picked up despite being half an hour away.

And that's that.

    what did you do, get a 7 day unlimited or something? if you were only going one way it should only be $1.50 for a metrocard, thats not too bad, better than a $100 taxi

    No, I bought a $5 Air Train pass plus a $2 fare and paid with a 20 because I was in a hurry. Didn't even get $6 in change, and I still missed my train.

Really I wish it was like that though hitching rides going back and forth accross the states picking up women...Yeah heh.

    Hmm nah I think it depends on where you look. And who you know along the way. Friend of mine went cross country to Seattle had a grand old time even made a porno while he was at it. He stayed in his car for the first few weeks working out sparingly at the YMCA and found a dorm that he rented for a while. He got pretty high while he stayed there calling me one night saying. I WAS THIS CLOSE! TO IT! I told him another friend wanted to talk to him and he wrang him at 3 am in the morning haha. And yes he did have work the next day.

    So yeah maybe not exactly like Kerourac's America but Gen X is just as beat as the 40s I can tell ya except now its house and heavy metal. ;)
