I've only played with them in the store myself, however, i've had a couple dozen customers come into the cafe with them, most people who i talk to who own them have had problems, everything from the LCD dying, to the swivel actually cracking, i'm sure they have fixed it by now, but on the early models, the LCD cables would fray from the swivel.

    Hmmm... yeah...

Looks like I am locked into Windows XP with it too...

Anyone know anything about Linux being used on this model?

    It's a new product so I'm wondering...

    :)

I do love the ergonomic aspects and the stylus usage though over conventional laptops.

Guess I'll keep waiting until I hear more....

I really wanted one when they first came out, but the more i hear from people who have them, the more i want to wait, it still is a pretty nifty idea.

That's just Wrong! Anything electronic with a 360o swivel is bound to break up and die easily. As long as the information is sent through a cord of some sort. Egh!

I'm a bit against rotating screens even on digicams even though I own one.

What you should have is a physical tablet with no swivels or such at all. Maybe just a top protector that can be closed when you're done using. That's it.

A physical, no-swivel tablet with a projection keyboard. That could do the trick. But as far as that model goes... no, I wouldn't take it unless I got it for free.

    Egh!

    (Just US $ 0.02 no-one really cares about. :))

I think that unless you actually have a need for a tablet PC, they're not worth the money. As you said, you'll also be locked into WinXP, as while Linux may run on it, you won't be able to take advantage of the features you actually bought it for such as stylus input, thus making it a really expensive, underpowered-for-the-price laptop.

    I'm still tempted though...

That IS the way laptops should have been used years ago...

Have to mull this one over...

It's only plastic money after all...

    :p

I mean XP SP2 I CAN live with after all...

I will never go Vista though...

    Phht!

I don't own a tablet but that looks cool. They don't state how long the battery will last anywhere in standbuy or full use.

I've known a pair of people with these. One suffered a hinge problem on an older model, but the friend witht he newer (less than one year) has had no problems so far.

I'd also like to add that the first friend isn't particularly good at caring for his gear.

My brother has one (not sure if newer or older, but he's had it a while now) and had no problems. Common sense says to be gentle with the pivot/hinge.

Well, I watched a few of their promo vids... They say they have designed a substantial hinge out of magnesium. I would imagine that they have also put thought into the cable sleeve and wear life of said item.

    Still thinking about it...

I really dig the usability of that design...

I have the plastic, just do I have the balls...

    :p

Also, I don't remember the monitor being able to actually rotate more than 360 degrees. It could flip around 180 in either direction, but the implication made above was apparently that of being able to spin indefinitely.

I think Sanfams right, it only rotates 180, not full twist, which imho is a good thing (less to break).
