I hope it'll be 3-dimensional like Nexus and not like SFC3 or SW:EAW.
i just hope i have a machine that is powerful enough to run it

[Vader]NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! [/Vader]
It appears that the "powers that be" are looking to rejuvenate the Star Trek franchise in a big way... I really hope it works.
I've really liked many of the trek games in the past, but i've been turned off to gaming recently because the currenty games all bore me, so i'm hoping for good things, but not holding my breath.
I was going to upgrade my computer for SPORE, but that has been pushed to 2nd half of 2007, so I will probably upgrade when the system reqs come out for this.
I'm a fan of nexus, so this should be similar. I think I'll install bridge commander again cuz that was fun.

I may do the same, i upgraded my video card to an FX5900 a couple years ago, but other than that, i've been running the same system for quite a while, just an XP 1800+ with 786 megs of ram.
now comes the question... stick with AMD. or get a core duo motherboard...
For me, its too late, I remain an AMD fanboy. They will get it back, probably next year, but we will see.
Anyway, Maximum PC just did their '06 dream PC and used a new Core Duo chip in it. Very fast, nothing could touch it. On top of that, Intel finally figured out how to build a processor that doesnt bake your insides. So it remains quite cool.
With Intel back on top, AMD has been forced to slash their prices. A good CPU/Motherboard combo of a new AM2 socket dual core AMD can be had for less than $350.
Its worth a look.
The current Core Duo processors are significantly faster than anything AMD has to offer right now. It took them over 3 years but Intel finaly snatched the performance crown back from AMD.

If i do it, it's going to be a Core 2 Duo, i'm really trying to decide if i want to build myself, or just grab prebuilt, aside from laptops, the last Intel processor i owned, was in my Dell Poweredge server, and that was a PII 266, so its been a while, i've been using nothing but AMD since..
i had around $1500 earmarked for a new Laptop, but, now that i picked up that $50 laptop, and have it working well.. and only ended up spending about $200 total...
Prices are based on Newegg:
Case: 60
AMD AM2 3200+: $100 (don't think price cut was reflected on newegg yet)
2x 512mb PC4200 DDR2: 70
2 IDE-SATA converter: 30
MSI K9N Platinum: 100
Total: 350
Things are missing like hard drive and monitor because he already had those. GFX card we decided we could hold off on as his World of Warcraft should run alright on the onboard and we would get another when game he gets demanded it (SPORE).
I am probably going to follow something similar. Its hard to upgrade my rig in components becase my socket is maxed out (1.4 GHz baby!) and getting a new mobo would require new everything.
Here is what I wrote up for my bf when he wanted me to look at computer upgrades:

I may go nuts, and get all new everything, processor, mobo, case, memory, video card, i'm even tempted to get a PhysX card as well.
when i add everything up, its prolly going to be in the $1200-1500 range, i can get an alienware or a dell (i know, same company) in the $1500-1700 range...
they are both more than i want to spend, but i've been putting it off forever.
I'm also an unemployed college grad with no money and wont have money for a while. I like my shiny LCD tho!
Heh, yeah i know what that no money thing is like, right now we're only working for 6 months out of the year, so we have to hope we save enough over the summer to make it through the winter. but i'm planning on using money from tips to finance a trip to florida and a new computer, (that is if we get the same amount in tips this year as last)
Can I work at your cafe? =P
