    The 501'st is like one of the most popular Star Wars groups out there. They were in charge of security durring Celebration III, so getting into something like that puts you high in my book.

    I saw some 501st troopers at a recent convention here in the UK.

    They were outside keeping an eye on the people waiting to get in but what really amused me, a van tried to leave the carpark...one stormtrooper stood in the road, forcing the van to stop, then two more approached from either side and started hassling the driver, asking if he was smuggling Rebels :D

    On a side note, the group has become so well known they've been recognised as part of the Star Wars universe and have been featured in books and Battlefront 2.

    Watch the rose Parade this year. I will not be in it because I am not a Stormtrooper, and they already have the Vader picked out, but the 501st will have about 200 members marching.

    Plastic Furries? Furries get off on their perversion. I just like strangling people from a distance.

    Oh, but my troopers will all have a built in version of Oiroke no Jutsu, so youre going to have to deal with that nosebleed first.. ;)

    Correct me if I'm wrong... but if I remember correctly, Storm Trooper armor provides zero protection against blaster fire Anywho.. They take one shot, and their down for the count. It's basically for the look, not for the protection.

    According to the novels, it protects somewhat against grazes, but not so well against direct hits.

    And this trooper is about to find that it's no good at all against Lightsabres....

    Actually, that depends quite heavily on what novels you read. Some are quite heavily revisionist (Stackpole, notably) in adding a degree of gritty realism. Fighter descriptions are lifted from WW2 fights (dialing in guns to specific distances, etc) and stormtroopers and urban combat descriptions are written more with modern combat in mind than the mindless enemies in the movies.

    It's... interesting, sort of. At least as interesting as a crappy Star Wars book can be. At the very least, it is an improvement on the movies.

    Don't ask me how I know all this. I went through a brief period in high school where I didn't read good books.

    Stackpole and Zahn are the two best Star Wars writers. Luceno is good for prequel-era stuff. Just about anybody else can be passed over.

    One reason Stormtroopers are such bad shots is that they can't see a damned thing in that helmet! ;-)
