Flight sims, too, seem to be lacking. Pretty much all I can think of that's new (or, rather, recently and consistently updated) is X-Plane, which is good, updated consistantly, and now has a "war games" function. It's still not as satisfying as "actually" blowing shit up on missions ans such, though.

As for "Elite"-style games, I'll always have a soft spot for Escape Velocity.

I'd be game for a new joystick-flying mission-based game, though, either in space or in air.

MSFS is also regularly updated. FSX is due out at the end of this year, and looks damn pretty.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
But MSFS isn't as flexible as the X-Plane line. It offers you some absolutely incredible aircraft and mind blowing scenery, but it stops there.

Also,
Escape Velocity is why I got some of my older macs. I worship that game, the series as a whole. It's a wonderful, amazing, fun game to just pick up and play through.

After posting that link, I poked around the website for a while, and found that the graphics revamping plug-in for the EV Classic conversion was finished. I just spent entirely too much time tooling around, reliving my elementary school computer-gaming days (albeit with much nicer pictures).

EV classic is amazing. While I had OS9 installed on the ibook, it was one of the games I'd regularly play.

That has absolutely no relevance to the fact that both X-Plane and MSFS are updated regularly. :)

I guess not, but also consider that they're only two apps in what used to be a relatively more populated field Toss in ProPilot, Flight Unlimited, and countless other names I can't even begin to remember...

And combat sims are...well, they just don't seem to exist anymore.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
Yes, it's a sad, sorry state, isn't it? I actually saw Flight Unlimited in EB the other day, sitting on a shelf, looking rejected.

I'm a proud owner of FLII. It was a very worthwhile game that, back in the day, provided one of the best flying experiences you could get, with amazing terrain textures for the entire northern pacific US coast.

I still play DiD's Total Air War when I feel like a combat sim. Best damn game I ever bought.
• The article didn't mention other freeware space sim projects...

...like Beyond the Red Line!!!

Multiplayer and limited single-player demo coming soon!!!

F22 Lightning 2? Novalogic? Got it on my shelf to. Actually one of the last flightsims I actually enjoyed.

I AGREE!!! That is still the ONLY Combat flight sim I can stand to play these days. Everything else just kinda...stinks.

Even though there came a really great spacesim, I do not know If I would play it. Somehow I am just so tired of games and using time playing them feels like a waste of....time. Maybe it is the lack of a nice PC to play them on (only got a laptop), maybe its the lack of interesting games. Maybe I am older :). I got the time to play them, but lacks the "want to play" feeling.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I know how you feel. I have a huge list of games to play, but actually playing them in what little spare time I have at the moment takes a lot of willpower, for some reason.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
I agree. Nothing feels... new and exciting like it use to. Right now the three games I muster to play is Civilization 4, Simcity 4, and Eve -- two of which are sequals.

I am excited for Spore, but that wont be for another 6 months at least.
• Rogue TraderRogue Trader Somebody stop him...
i haven't been excited about PC games for years. Nothing feels fresh at all anymore.

Though a new Sam and Max sounds pretty damn cool.

other then that if it's not nintendo its not cool.
• MundaneMundane Elite Ranger
Last fresh game for me was Homeworld, BattleZone and Max Payne. Next game on my "todo" list is Fahrenheit, never completed it.

Just finished Paradise, shitty adventuregame.

I could not agree more, games just dont excite me like they used to, i dont know if its because i'm older, or because i feel the quality of the games has gone way down, or even when they are high quality, its the same old idea over and over and over.

Thats the sequel to TLJ isn't it....

ugh i need to finish TLJ, you know what, i think i'll put it on my laptop tonite and play, hopefully i'll have time, these 12-18 hour days dont leave much time for games...

Ok, so i went to check out the dreamfall site, just to see if i'd be able to play it on the laptop when i get it after i finish TLJ.... no, it wont run on the laptop, no suprise there... but, my DESKTOP machine barely meets miniumum requirements! UGH, i may have to upgrade... i haven't had to upgrade my computer to play a game in a while, that used to be the main reason i upgraded my computers, IIRC my first upgrade ever, was upgrading my tandy 1000 from 256k to 640k of memory so i could play California Games...
