JMS/Bryce Zabel Trek Treatment
RubberEagle
What's a rubber eagle used for, anyway?
in Zocalo v2.0
As you might remember, JMS and Bryce Zable created a treatment on how to reinvigorate Star Trek in 2004, wich they showd to paramount. Unfortunately nothing ever came of it.
Bryce Zabel now posted the Treatment as 14-page PDF on his blog:

It doesn't move me, I have to say.
And if you think that it's just "search for mysterious alien" for five years, i'm pretty sure that by the end of the second or third year jms would have pulled a .. jms on us (B5's plot turned around quite a few times, first "last best hope for peace", then the shadow war, the EA-civil war, and then back to "last best hope for peace").
The treatement does have huge potenial, if executed right, and i think that's where you're coming from. You can't imagine how this could be made into a compelling TV show.
For me, I think about what i first thought when i saw "TG", the original cut, with german dubbing, and i thought "bah... that's boring" (Only came back to B5 because a friend insisted on me watching some second season episodes he taped..)
According to this guy, jms and zabel wrote the treatment and a series bible and then gave it to paramount. Paramount is very interested in continuing the Star Trek franchise. The problem is due to the wording of a certain big shot *cough Rick Birdbrain cough*, he would receave a good sum of money for anything that is Trek related even if he isn't working on the project. Understadably Paramount doesn't want to spend money it doesn't have to.
My source continued by saying that this certain higher's up contract will expire at what would have been the end of Enterprise's 7 year run. Once it expires paramount very much intends not to renew it. At this time Paramount wishes to bring jms and/or Zabel on board to lead the next trek series.
Take with a grain of salt.
And, with the new Movie Project, would the TV show have to adapt to certain aspects of it?
I think that in particular could ... put jms off a bit...
Sure, James Bond has been played by many different actors and survived, as has Superman, but none of those characters were created by the actors, Bond was in Books, Superman Comics. so we knew the general character before ever seeing an actor play him/her, the actor had a blueprint of how the character was supposed to act, Kirk. Spock, McCoy, Scotty, Uhura, Chekov, Sulu, the actors created those characters as much as the writer's or Gene Roddenberry ever did,
Could you see anyone but Harrison Ford doing Han Solo or Indiana Jones (young Indy doesnt count) and as i like Ewan McGreggor, but he was NOT Obi-wan. sometimes the character and the actor are just inseperable.
I just dont know....
Katiee Sackhoff said in an interview That it's good that Starbuck is a woman now, because every man would have been compared to Dirk Benedict...
It sure is tough, and it would be hard to find actors that can inherit the characters, but that'll also happen with the new J.J.Abrams Movie...
It would probably come down to casting, and the militant trekkers would be flaming all over the internet for the first season or so either way...
[B]hm.. yes, but it's quite similar (although the Star Trek characters are of course much more iconic) with the Situation of the new BSG.

I don't know, as much as I love the BSG characters, i dont really have as much of a problem with the new actors, my wife on the other hand, cannot get over Starbuck and Boomer being women.
Lucky, too, that the extra one was also the best of the four.
