    On the bright side, if that really happened, none of us would have to worry about what to do next. It's the smaller impacts (where there are survivors) about which we have to be concerned.

    By the way, did anyone see the program (I think it was on Discovery) a few years ago about how the moon was formed? One theory was that it wasn't an asteroid, but an entire planet (they called Orpheus) which collided with Earth (they called Earth Mark I).

    Yup, it is a well accepted theory too considering the size, composition, and age of the moon.

    Well, I think the moon was put there by aliens to inspire us to make cheese with holes in it....

    Actually, the moon was formed when a gigantic planet consisting mostly of cheese collided with the young Earth. This is also what killed off the last dinosaurs, they died of obesity..

    I saw that couple of months ago, it was in the first episode of a Japanese-made 6-part science series "The Miracle Planet". Definitely worth watching.
