And I've just listened to the clips, sounds great! Can't wait to get it :)

I'm endlessly satisfied that I guessed right for some of the more obscurely titled tracks from the finale when I first saw the listing. Spoilers for Lay Down Your Burdens, Parts I and II Spoiler: With that length, "Something Dark Is Coming" had to be the teaser. "Dark Unions" only really fit for when Gina and Baltar got it on, then she blew up the Cloud Nine. And I was hoping that "Worthy of Survival" would be the music from when the fleet gets the hell out of Dodge City at the end of the finale. But, like "Baltar Panics," in the first season, only the precussion from the track was used in the actual show, and it was significantly shortened.

Only a couple more weeks until my copy arrives!

(By the way, does "One Year Later" remind anyone else of the theme from "Myst"?)

No. I see what you're saying, but it sounds a lot like Nach Deutschland from the Bourne Supremacy soundtrack. Download it or listen to it off the Amazon page (though the quality is crap) and you'll see what I mean. Hell, could email Bear and ask him about it.

Speaking of which, I got into Explosions in the Sky earlier this year, and one track in particular made me think of Battlestar. Check out Your Hand in Mine off of The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place:

http://www.explosionsinthesky.com/mp3s/05YourHandInMine.mp3

I emailed Bear about it. He cryptically replied that Explosions probably wouldn't be involved in scoring season 3. Ah, well. He's still doing damn good work.

Roslin and Adama sounds a lot like Leave No Man behind from Black Hawk Down, too. I know they're making Bear write something like half an hour of music a week, but this is still kind of weird.

I've been waiting for what seems like years now for this ST ever since I heard the full demo of Prelude to War that used to be in Bears website some time ago.

Heh, I asked bear about the S2 OST way back when Pegasus aired. Suffice to say, it's been a long wait. I've ordered my copy, and can't wait! :)

I've managed to get hold of 6 tracks from the coming cd. Wow its just superb!!! Galactica Attacks is a really cool military style tune and ends with pounding takei drums! Awesome!! One to stick on repeat for sure. My other fav track is Roslin & Adama. Now this imo is the most beautiful track Bear has created to date. Like the reviewer on Soundtracks.net I was a bit stunned by this one as like him I really couldn't remember hearing it in the scene where Adama kisses Roslin. Its one of those pieces that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck. Another track I liked, Gine Escapes, starts off with some slow guitar which kinda reminds me of John Murphys "In the House-In a heart beat" track (used in 28 Days Later and a Puegot 206 GTi advert). Again this one ends with some more dramatic takei drums. Very cool!

Damn can't wait for this to arrive :D

EDITED FOR ACCURACY: Because my copy arrived in the mail today and some of my initial assumptions were off the mark, and others I had no way to know about.

Don't delete the six preview tracks when you get the soundtrack. Those preview tracks are different than the ones that'll be on the CD. The CD version of "Roslin and Adama" is a different arrangement/mix than the preview, and is also slightly longer. From the CD preview clip, I think I like the preview arrangement better than the CD arrangement, so you may want to have both.

"Prelude to War" includes "Galactica Attacks," plus a lot of music from "Resurrection Ship". However, while "Galactica Attacks" is, note for note, the end of the episode "Pegasus," the corresponding section of "Prelude" has been remixed somewhat, so "GA" is worth keeping, as well.

"Adama's Choice"/"Reuniting the Fleet," is also lengthened with an additional section at the end. "Market" is part of the track "Standing in the Mud." "Baltar's Dream" and "Gina Escapes" seem to be identical to the previews in both length and mix, though.

I have also noted the BHD-style music, in the first season as well as the second. I'd be interested to know if he got inspiration from the Hans Zimmer, or just the style of music in that movie in general (Wander My Friends IS quite similar to Minstrel Boy, which was NOT done by Hans Zimmer)
• ArethusaArethusa Universal Cathode
Now that you mention it, yeah, there is a similarity there. Thematically, there is some resonance between BHD and BSG, so I can definitely see him looking there for inspiration. Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros is also possibly my second favorite band ever, so shout out yeah.

The only one that really bothers me is One Year Later/Nach Deutschland. This is the second time I've seen Bourne music cribbed so obviously (Man on Fire and The Constant Gardener also did it).

You know, when I was reading the liner notes of the CD (hurray for pre-ordering!), RDM's letter describes in graphic detail the indignities that Bear has to put up with, including, and I quote, being "insulted by constantly being asked to 'make it sound like the temp track.'"

I have to say, I read that, and I thought of you guys. Well, and the fellow on the TrekBBS whose made the same observations, but was a bit more of a jerk about it. Come to think of it, it also reminds me of something I read from Richard Gibbs about the creation of the BSG main title music for the series, and how he didn't really like it, because he was constrained by the temp track...
• Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
Thanks interesting about the tracks David of Mac. I shall keep the previews then for sure. It does boggle me sometimes the way certain pieces of music get cut/left out of soundtracks... especially when they sound really great, to me anyway.

Oh well my copy is preordered now so we shall see what its like.
• Falcon1Falcon1 Elite Ranger
God darn blast it!!! My orders been delayed!!! Grrrr Amazon

Better off ordering directly from La La Land.

Oh, no. I wasn't talking about anything like that. The composer was interviewed for "Film Music Radio," and the show had a few clips of music from season 2 (in addition to a lot of others samples of his work). It was all freely released and aboveboard.

No, I was edited for suggesting that Falcon [buy some pretty, pretty pink flowers] while waiting for his physical copy to get to him.

Oh. See, now, confusion arises when people don't put in the "Edited by *Whom* on *When*."

uhm, what the hell. The Black Market tracks turns into the Doom 3 title screen music when the heavy guitars come in.

I would like to suggest that we refrain from discussing less legal ways of acquiring the media in question and rather send money to yours truly. It never hurts to bribe the admin, but it rarely helps ;)

But seriously, though. Our host's stance on copyright infringement is fairly clear, and we must abide with their rules.

If it had been you who were being told not to say something, it would have been your post that was edited, don't you think? :)
• David of MacDavid of Mac Elite Ranger Ca
I couldn't tell it had been edited, though. I thought it was an oddly-worded aside by the poster in question.

Well now you know better. :p

You know, admins like to eat, too!

They also like to be bathed in diamond creme, but it's hard to do such on a student budget. They need your help! Without your generous donations, administrators around the world will be unable to live the lifestyle they were born into. Please....think of the Admins.

Because I can't seem to sleep, I thought I'd chime in.

Got this album recently, and it is *fantastic.* I can't help but love the BHD-esque cues tossed into the roslin tracks, and cannot get enough of Allegro and Prelude to War. It also flows so smoothly into itself. I found I had accidentially been looping the album over and over, and I simply had not noticed because the superb composition had me distracted.
