Nope def not! They seem to have been rather sneaky in their goings on. Big shame really.

Having read Mongooses side on this for the past months, I have to say the blame is as much JMS's. His answers are a bit childish considering how much they have been trying to get in touch with him.

He only shows one side of the story also, so its easy for him to place blame..

He was fishing for money that Mongoose Publishing didnt have before, they are not a big company, and do this for the fans, not themselves. They always go out of their way to please the fans, not to make money. Im just surprised hes acting this way..

You somehow think the publisher doesn't want to make money?

I didnt say that.. :)

Its just that the publishing company are always straight to the fans, even more so than JMS at times. They arent afraid to admit their mistakes, and correct them, based on what the fans think.
They are always open, and have been since the start with the novels. They write about their problems contacting JMS, and have even tried contacting him via their forum in desperation. They have thus far been ignored.
They havent been trying to fool JMS, or anything like that. They have been trying to get in touch with him, but all the way, hes been an arse. Thats why I side with them on this.

I say this again...NO true B5 fan should give a penney towards these books.
As much as I agree on JMS being the sole decidee on who gets to use his IP, I believe hes been a childish arse about this. Its a pity, and have really made me see him in a new light.. :(

Dont buy the books if you are a die-hard fan of B5, that I can agree on. But buy the books if you like the universe, and would like to read some new stuff about it. They had his support in the beginning, and both shared ideas with each other. This is the fruit of that cooperation. Its a shame to see it go to waste.

That isn't what I've seen from their posts on the newsgroup and in the interview mentioned there. That's anything but being straight with the fans.
  • MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Problem is that JMS publishes what he wants in the newsgroup, so he leaves a few things out that he doesnt seem to think are relevant..

I havent actually listened to the interview though, since the computers at school dont have speakers..

    Edit: Dont instead of doesnt..

I really hope this turns out ok, but I really doubt it.. :(

I'm not talking about the bits jms has quoted. I went through and read the whole thread at google groups last week, which contains numerous messages from the Mongoose guy. Frankly, from what I've read, I think both sides are equally to blame. jms is being an arse about providing support and materials, but the Mongoose people have had the attitude that jms should do work to provide outlines and so forth cheap because its "for the fans", which unfortunately is not how the world works, and then when he said no gone ahead anyway but tried to misrepresent the support they did get.

JMS is B5...it is his right to ignore or deny the right of anyone if he chooses to have the use of his scripts, B5 related material, etc.
That's actually not true. JMS only has control over movie rights. WB has control over everything else, with or without JMS's permission. If you question this, go back and read some of JMS's posts on the failed movie script about a year ago. He specifically stated this information on licensing.

That said, if JMS has contacted WB and they say they havne't seen anything from Mongoose, I see no reason why that isn't the case. Also, if Mongoose is claiming that their stuff is "JMS supported" and it isn't, shame on them. This is more between WB licensing and Mongoose than between JMS and Mongoose. I'd like to hear the WB end of it.

Yeah, from what Ive read, thats because its the way they work with it and they cant understand why he doesnt see it that way. Its a failure of communication, one which probably is unbridgeable considering their worlds are so far apart already. Its a pity, because no one else have the stamina to work with the B5 universe, apart from JMS himself, who unfortunately has the habit of making it impossible to work with him.. :(
