    While I agree with the basic premise, it is an oversimplification. The military is stretched thin as it is and (like it or not) the US will be in Iraq and Afghanistan for quite a while. That costs a lot of money--money that, if nothing else, needs to go to the troops to ensure they are properly equipped.

    So, while the "Axis of Evil" may only spend 3/4 of a "cookie" on their military, it takes many more US cookies to properly deal with the situation, as well as unforeseen threats from others.

    That is a more accurate picture. 10x what ol Ben claims, and that number does not include and of the dollars spent in private schooling.

    Not to mention that many of the military dollars spent have a significant trickle down effect in the economy.

    That said, do I think we spend too much on miltary and not enough on education.

    A big problem witht he american economy is that Regan and FDR economics work to expand the economy, but neither of them are sustainable. One of the major causes of economic expansion is money put into the defence department, which doesnt do well either
