Caprica - New Series

Mr_BesterMr_Bester Earthforce OfficerSt Louis MO
Sci fi has a new prequel series of the BSG universe coming up. I wish they'd throw money at JMS like they do Ron Moore.

I don't know if I love or hate that idea.

I suspect it'll be good, but I just want them to wrap up BSG in a nice little bow before it gets old and starts to suffer the effects of plothritis (when the believability of a plot begins to lose elasticity, and attempts to fiddle with it cause lasting pain to the viewer).

BSG is already reaching that point. There were a few major inconsistencies at the end of S2 that were very clearly done in order to find a way to move the plot past a point where it should have ended.

I'm just worried that it will suffer the same fate as SG1. The quality of the show dropped significantly when they started up atlantis.

Seems a bit early for a spinoff of BSG. BSG has only been around for 2 seasons, and the first season was a short one at that.

I just hope this doesn't decrease the quality of BSG either. Guess we will find out soon enough.

Ok, I just saw this and I had to check again and make sure the news wasn't dated April 1st. :D You know I'm sure a prequel would be great, but it wuold be nice if they at least waited to finish with the other series first. From the news I've read the show has been announced but not officially picked up yet even for a pilot so at best its still a long ways off if it ever does happen. I just hope that while all this is being planned it doesn't take RDM's and David Eick's attention away from BSG and they let it slip.

To be fair, SG1 ran for 8 seasons before Atlantis came along so I don't think the correlation is THAT direct. But I do agree that it might be too soon for a spin off.

Although, maybe we'll get a look at a fleet of Battlestars in action (perhaps even some other classes). :)

Length of run wasn't my concern, it was that they started focusing the creativity at Atlantis and started re-re-rehashing SG1. I don't blame atlantis for SG1 sucking, but it certainly contributed.

SG1 began sucking once they resolved the major plot threads and tried a reboot on the story.

It's a complete disaster, because there are multiple key cast members missing (O'Neill, Hammond, and to a lesser extent, Doc Frasier). There's potential for a recovery, but with the cast went the writers, too.

The same thing happened with Buffy after season 3 when Angel left and got his own spinoff.

Did he taste like chicken?
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
No, more like pork.
• BigglesBiggles The Man Without a Face
I like pork. Not as much as chicken, though.

I hate pork... always gets stuck in my teeth for some reason, but ironically, I love bacon and other smoked bits of pig....

go figure...

and to get terribly back on topic...

methinks this sort of drek is as much a product of the current generation of viewers, its got to the point where a series seems to be half over before it starts, computers are ancient before they make it out of the box they arrived in....games are out long before they finish making them.... :P

the age of information overload is about to break over us like a 400 foot Tsunami of ones and zeros....

Anyone notice how when a British actor does an American accent, they completely pull it off, but it doesn't work the other way around? When Americans try a British accent, they sound like Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.

What brought this up is I just saw an interview with Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama):

I was just as surprised as when I found out Damian Lewis (Lt, Capt, Maj Winters from Band of Brothers) was British too.

I wouldn't say that's true. I've seen Brits screw it up terribly and some Americans pull it off quite well. May be true generally, but I'm not even sure about that.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I think it's because when a British actor tries to sound American and fails, they simply sound less British. But if an American actor tries a British accent and fails, it mutates into this painful hybrid called "Bringlish" that doesn't sound anything like either of the parents.
