That touchscreen appears to use a similar system as the one we have in our lab. In our one, the sensors are infrared linear cameras (linear meaning they are 1 pixel high and a certain number wide). They both pick up where in their field of view your finger is and its position on the screen is calculated by simple triangulation. I don't know what the sensor system is on that one but I'm fairly sure it uses triangulation as well. It looks like it might have an infrared emitter in the stylus tip to make it more robust.
