Jury Duty....bah

So...Parents got a letter saying I was summoned for Jury Duty a couple weeks ago.

Allright...#1: I'm a full time student, #2, I live in St. Augustine to attend college. I'm 3 hours from the courthouse I was summoned too, and it's two weeks before finals.

Anyhoo, go home, get the letter, fill it out, mail it to the courthouse requesting I be excused for the stated reasons.

No word back. Was summoned for 8:15 this morning. Called at 8:45 saying "You know, never heard back from ya on if I needed to go. But it's quite impossible for me to make it..."

They couldn't tell me if I needed to go, because all the paperwork was "upstairs with the Jury Clerk in court"

Soo...nothing I can do until 4:30 now...kinda like "Great, now what?"

Looked it up. Worst they can do to me is hold me in contempt of court and toss me in Jail for 3 months. *Sigh*

You know, all suspects are guilty, period. Otherwise they wouldnt be suspects, now would they?
  • SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
If they're accused, then obviously they're guilty. Otherwise, why would they be a suspect in the first place?

I was summoned just before I left for school last year, but they let me slide because I'm a full time student (like A#). It really sucks they didn't get back to you.

Starship Troopers? If so, then we'll just send the accused to fight the bugs... :D

I never read the book, but the movie (as cheesy as it was) didn't really establish what rights a person had after serving in the military, thereby becoming a citizen. Perhaps they also have the right to innocence before guilt (assuming they survive service, that is ;) )?

I think they're all referring to the old Star Wars : Troopers spoof..

It's funny ha ha tho.. the original one. Those damned jawas, and what really happened to Luke's foster parents. :p

    Well..they got my Notice yesterday.
    (The day I was summoned)

Up to the Judge now if I have any penelties
  • I learned the easy way to get out of it.
    I don't vote!

But don't worry, if they decide to arrest you, sue them for failing to notify you if you had to come or not because of your situation.

It's America, you can sue for any reason!

Read the book, not for the sci fi, but for the poli sci.
