Project alive?

No news... so long. What`s happen? Mod for Nexus - very good idea. I has understood this, as soon as has seen design ships in the game. Rotate sections and such things...

    Well, the answer to that is... both yes and no.

    We have a lot of ready material in our hands. The main thing that is missing is the most important one - missions. We need to start scripting more missions. Actually I had people join the mod for this purpose but it seems that nobody has actually done anything.
    For their defence I must say that I haven't been very active either. My life has been filled by school projects... and when you code all day, you don't want to spend your spare time doing mission scripting. So, things haven't really moved anywhere since I've needed a break from all this AND there isn't really anyone else to do this stuff at the moment (except Revan67, did I mention he joined the team?). Modeling is at halt since we don't really have anyone qualified to do that. I just wish LogicSequence came back from wherever he disappeared.

    But in the end I believe that this will get finished. Now is just a bad time. I hate abandoning projects.

    What skills are needed to make missions?

    The game arrived on saturday but I still haven't managed to play it yet :)
  • Just wanted to note that i am still alive and kickin'... What comes to those missions however, i havent accomplished much.(b'cause of school and partly lack of skill) ;)

    I've tried to be at irc but every time i log in, you jusas aren't there or are just AFK.

    So i haven't been able to talk to you things you wanted to talk about (whatever they were, haven't had change to find out) ;)
  • Well, I for one have not lost [I]complete[/I] faith in this project. I. of course, have become worried, but I am happy to see that the project has not been forgotten/abandoned.

    I have ZERO talent when it comes to computer programming, though my knowledge of the B5 universe and my creativity are at your complete disposal.

    Please, drop me a line if you (for whatever reason) need help with anything non-computer realated.

    Thank you for persuing this project untill its eventual end.

  • I might be able to help in mission scripting. I can easily learn a game script, and have a lot of spare time. I might not be the best and fastest of the world, but I'd be happy to help

    Oh, sorry for my abscence again, been busy...

    Anyway, if you're really interested there's a few tutorials around in the Nexus forums ([url]www.nexusthegame.com[/url]), I suggest you search for them there. The scripting isn't very trivial in the end but most people get put off because of the lack of graphical mission designer. Only ship placement is done with the graphical editor and the rest is left to be scripted by hand.

    I'm hoping to get more activated these days as school is almost over. Still struggling with the last exams and projects.
  • Also, are the current ships stable? maybe you could have a release without the campaign. with the absence of activity and/or the lack of scripters, it would be a way to save the mod from dying. maybe scripters, after trying the release, will find interest in helping for a campaign scripting

  • Thanks, i will have a look at the scripting tutorials and try my hand at them, think i will be signed off again this week so might have a lot of spare time on my hands. Im assuming that all of this editing is done under the skirmisher thing? since im a total newb to the world of scripting im not sure.

    oh and also about the construction of the babylon 5 ships, whats happening with that? is there someone that has done them or is there some help needed with that? i am working with maya ple just now and learning the basics but if i can help now or in future months when im hopefully a bit better jst drop me a line!

    oh yeh and i will have to upgrade from the ple version to maya 6 or 7 before i can really help out cos of ple limitations. hopefully 7, jst need to find a good price.

    This will probably done if/when everyone thinks it's the only way we can push this baby out. Until that we try to make this a total conversion.

    The editing is done by hand and with the mission editor/mod tools that ships with the game. Here are my tutorials on the subject:

  • Sounds good, i will take some time out of maya this week and try out the scripting of missions, and writing up different scenarios that could come into it! any information i will need about the background of the mod that we are creating, to base my missions around? will just read around the thread about it jst now to see if i can gather anything thats been said about that might help.

  • I don't know about anyone else... but I am ecstatic over the amount of activity here recently.

    We are gettin scripters and more people to possibly make meshes...

    I am thrilled. I am sorry I can't do anything but play the end game (and give moral support ;) ).

    I actually took my time today to map the solar systems and missions. Took some digging to remember which mission was planned on which system :rolleyes: anyway, I count 9 systems currently with a few more needed. Only 5 of them have been made though but whooping up solar systems is fast and fun, I think that's what I'll start doing next :)
  • Hey, been starting to use the mission scripter. just getting started so will need some time to get used to it. i have a few questions regarding the script of the game.

    which ship is the player going to start off with? what sort of capabilities are you going to give the raiders? and is it based in a particular system that i should model from? i think you mentioned the orion system in the initial background release.

    The player's going to start with a Hyperion. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by raider capabilities, didn't quite catch the question. The campaign is not exactly based on any system but it revolves more or less around EA space.

    Basically you shouldn't really think of the details now, just study how to create working and exciting missions :) and how to instruct the AI.
  • k, got that. got an idea for a good one so will start working on that this week. still got to understand scripting first so could be painstaking work.

    But yea im still occasionally looking over the script when I get a moment to breathe. However, im done with my finals next week so I should be back to coding missions before the summer semester which starts roughly 3 weeks from now, plus or minus a few days but the good news is after the summer semester I am 250% done with school hurah!

    The Mission im working on currently, is pretty simple the tricky thing is learning the camera.. The devlopers did not document well, not at all.

    So no, its not dead just moving very slowly.

    So im really not dead =P just being pulled in a million different directions but we'll see this mod done.
  • Is it possible for you guys to simply upload the models, textures and all other required *stuff* without the scripted missions?

    There is a skirmisher mod that allows the creation of simple scenarios with available models. At this stage, I'd be more than content to simply fiddle around with that.
