As far as one-on-one conversations go, Skype is a lot of fun. However, when more ppl are involved over the 'net in a simultaneous conversation, I've found that Teamspeak servers are a better choice.

Sure, someone needs to put up a server for it and give people the IP to connect to it, but it uses less bandwith (and if my hucnch is correct on this one, less processing power as well) than skype and works great overall. And yes, it doesn't look as dangly as Skype does, but it works damn well. :) Easy to set up, easy to use.

I miss the good ol days of grunting and smoke signals.

thye nice thing about skype is the ability to connect both real-world and skype-world folks in one conference call, along with the FAR higher quality. Teamspeak is good, but skype's quality is far superior. However, skype can't use my Microsoft GameVoice as an external interface. If they could ever get that ancient niche product to work...

(It has a series of buttons which would be perfect for one-touch dialing)

Skype is quicker and easier when you just want to talk. It's designed for talking like a phone, not for speaking while playing a game, and for that it works brilliantly.
