FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise
Of course Gillette just introduced the Fusion, a 5 bladed razor, so anyway, check this out:

Not really just introduced, but yeah...I actually posted that on IRC yesterday, I think it was.

Damnit, if you're going to spy on us in #Firstones, at least give us the courtesy of talking to us once or twice ;)

or die.

Anyway, it's *techinically* six-bladed, as there's one on the top, too. I may just try it someday, because I'm just that sort of consumer whore.
• Yea, I just saw it at the register of the local supermarket a couple of days ago, and went on a little tirade to my wife of how ridiculous this "My razor has more blades than yours" thing was getting. The guy behine the register was amused, my wife was not.

What's most amusing, though, is that the Mach 3 is still my favorite. I tried the Schick Quattro, Tried the Sensor Excell 2, Tried the various other Gillette models...but the only one to last is the Mach 3.

Absolutely. The Quattro is shite, to be perfectly honest. The space between the individual blades is so small that the stubble gets trapped there easily and is only dislodged after a good ten minutes with a scalpel. In addition, the lubrication strip wears out after literally two shaves, something you never get with a Gillette series razor. (Besides, it's a reputable name; the first stick Razor was invented by Mr. Gillette himself.) Lastly, I always shave a bit on my top lip between the top of my moustache and my nose, a task for which the cumbersome, large-headed Quattro is ill-suited.

I myself use a Sensor Excel 2, but I do prefer the 3-bladed Sensor 3 heads which provide a slightly closer shave. (The Sensor 3 head is practically identical to a Mach 3.) I used a mach 3 before that for about 2 years and I never had any complaints. Still, I find proper preparation for shaving (heating up the skin with hot water and a flannel, followed by oil and foam) to be crucial in any shave.

Did I mention I work at Boots? ;)

It wasn't me I swear! Actually I can't get to IRC since the firewalls at work and school both prevent access, so there I wasn't spying.

What irks me is that each time Gillette intoduces a new high-end blade, they use the new price point to raise all the lower price points up a bit, including the Sensor and the Mach III, the later of which I will stay with since I refuse to pay 12 USD for a 4 pack of blades...

Bloody hell, where do you shop??? A pack of 4 is £4.50 at my store!

Gilette blades are costly... I use them, but even after 2-3 shaves the blades slowly begin to soften and they don't cut as good. I wouldn't use anything else though, since the Mach3 blade gives a very smooth, blood free shave. None of that disposable razor crap I used to use...
• JackNJackN <font color=#99FF99>Lightwave Alien</font>
Not me... I go to the dollar stores and buy those crappy twin blades and hack the shit out of my face every couple days before I go to work in the Toy department at Wally World...

I just use an electric razor. Much less hassle and faster than having a proper shave, and it does the job just as well

Guys, please. Buy a Dual Edge. They last forever, and 10 blades, double sided, with each side lasting easily twice as long as a cartridge, costs $5. The shave takes a little while to learn, but with proper technique, is infinitely superior to anything you can get with a cartridge. You shouldn't have to accept razor burn as just part of shaving.

I'm with E.T. Oh, and ShadowDancer. I don't care about having "the ultimate smooth shave," I just want the beard gone. :)

Not in my experience. Nothing beats a wet shave. ;)

I always get a breakout/razor burn if I shave too frequently, I usually have to wait 3-5 days before the next shave. Speaking of that i really want a shower at the moment.

I've actually had this happen recently. I've had to cut out shaving every other day and just settle for the annoying beard in place of razor burn.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
My facial hair grows so slow tho I can get away with it =P
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
As has been mentioned in IRC, I can grow a half-decent beard in a week. Give me a month and I've got a fully fledged terrorist beard.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
It takes me a month to get half an inch
• MessiahMessiah Failed Experiment
Im like Sanfam. My friends are jealous at be for being able to grow a beard in three days. I cut myself on all razors, but the electric kind is gentler on my extremely thin skin. So.. I have a beard..
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
I can't even grow proper facial hair :(

I guess I'm just too evolved :D
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
mine grows really quickly to the annoying length of stubble stage, (where its too long to really be stubble but not long enough to be a beard) and then just stops:rolleyes: id really like to grow a goatee
• shadow boxershadow boxer The Finger Painter & Master Ranter
I shave perhaps once a month...

and most of my face is under a power goatee of sorts anyways, which only gets a good trim.

I cant think of a bigger waste of time and resources than to constantly fight the chin fungus.

I get about an inch of growth in 2 months or so.
• I like a cold wet razor or warm in the shower shave by far. The electric tends to get VERY hot by the time I'm done and I get the worst heat/friction rash. After five years of 'lift and cut' hell I switched and even though my old man said I go back I'm still happy years later.

I used the Mach 3 for a while, but it has been already mentioned how bad Gillette razors clog. It also has the pivot at the end of the blades which causes the head to drag rather than cut. This causes nicks and burn for me.

I LOVE my Schick Xtreme 3. The pivot is in the middle, the blades last a while, they do not clog as badly even on my touch facial hair. The lubrication strip is a joke, but if you're using a good cream it doesn't mater much. :)

Count yourself lucky SB ~ I shave every other day and it gets old fast. I really should shave every day because by 36 hours I have a bad shadow but every other day prevents nicks and in grown hairs.

You guys that grow an inch of facial har is a month or two, all suck.

I was the poor sap in bootcamp the DI's made shave twice a day sometimes.

And its THICK hair too.

Right now, I use the schick quattro, its all right, marginally better than a sensor excell was for me. I have to keep the blades hot and wet though, or I get terrible razor burn. I also have an electric for those, out the door in a hurry days, its a Norelco one with the goo that comes out of it. Its worthless without the goo, it lifts and pulls, but if you work in that shave gell while your cutting, its not half bad. Then of course I have the beard trimmer to keep the goatee trimmed.

Just for the heck of it, I picked up one these 5 bladed monstrosities tonight, I will let you know if its worth your time or not.

I have used just about every razor/shaving system out there, and the closest, most comfortable shave yet, was a true barber shop pull out the actual razor wet shave. Aside from being rediculously close, no razor burn, and I didnt have to do it myself.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
I use Schick Xtreme 3, love it. And the parts are cheeper. And quite a few people like the shadow scruffy look :D

Same here...

Damn horse hair I have for a beard...

:D

And SpiritOne: DI's generally suck, @$$holes are mandated to f**k with you about your facial hair and shaving it for military dresscode.

Even when you have a doctors note in hand, and are bleeding profusely from the jugular veins, they'll still pull you aside and look down your throat to intimidate you...
• SpiritOneSpiritOne Magneto ABQ NM
lol, I know Jack. It sucked though, sometimes...

Thankfully I did my time and Im out now, so I can shave when I feel like it. Its usually every other day, to cut down on the bumps and cuts.
