Anyone have experience with rack-mount audio equipment?

FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise
My dad has asked me to make a sound equipment cabinet for their church. This will have to be a lockable bench and cabinet that houses a soundboard, lightboard, PC and several componates such as CD and DVD players, wireless mic receivers, lightboard controller, etc. Forunately, I believe the amps will be remote, so I don't have to deal with so much heat.

This will sit at the back of the sanctuary, so I will have to design it to match the rest of the church (hardwood, raised panels, dark stain), while housing all the equipment and being lockable.

My question to those in the know. Can anyone recommend someone who makes rack equipment that would be usefull in my situation while not costing an arm and a leg (remember this is a church).

Thanks

Jake

At one time, Radio Shack had a roll around Rack unit that was powder coated black with casters and easy to assemble.

Less than $80 IIRC... I still have mine from the days at FI. I use it to hold my amp, mixing consoles,EQ's, Art QuadFX unit, and my slim-line FM receiver, and even my 5 disc Carosel CD player.

    All 19" specifications etc.

They may still carry that item...

I'd consider checking craigslist or such for your area. Might get you some cheap gear. I'm not sure of the size or mounting specs, but I may be able to go to my old studio hangout and get some measurements this coming week. With that information, you could construct a decent wood or wood+metal chassis in no time. Build it a nice surround and stain/polish it to match. Voila! A Professional-looking stealth audio rack

This will be a bit more involved that just a nice wood surround covering a component rack. To match the existing woodwork of the church (which was built in 1919), I plan to build in cabinet with raised panels all around, a roll top to cover the boards and two large hide-away raised panel doors (similar to what most entertainment centers use) to lock away the equipment. The whole thing will likely be 4-5' wide.

Jack, thanks for the suggestion on radio shack and sanfam, if you happen to get a few measurements, that would help me get an estimate about how the thing will be sized so I can provide that to my dad.
