Should I be scared of the price tag that will come along with this too?

Wonder if it will work through my KVM switch without issue?
• Data CrystalData Crystal Pencil Artist
I think there was a thread about this earlier...

But the front page text seems to suggest that it's actually coming out? :D

Mein Gott! I want to know the price as well. :)

There was a thread many months ago when this keyboard was first announced. Back then there wasn't a release date, but I notice there's still no price.
• shadow boxershadow boxer The Finger Painter & Master Ranter
frikkin great idea
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I suspect US$399.

Not a bad deal, considering how often this device would be used and how much functionality it would add. Plus the cool factor.

I'll take 2!
• Keys could be animated when needed.

.....

SWEET

It will cost less than a good mobile phone.

*Looks*

269 pounds..for the best phone I could find (PDA/Camera)

475$ USD

OW

I hope my buisness takes off by then. that would ROCK
• I looked on the web, and most people are guessing around 200 to 400 some dollars. If anyone looked at the keyboard's website FAQ, it says it will cheaper than a good mobile phone, and thoes are around 150 bucks I guess... so it might be a good investment for me... maybe...
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
depends on what you mean by a "good" mobile phone.

Before rebate, most "good" mobile phones are $399-499.

Y'know, something besides 3D renders of this keyboard might be helpful.
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
I suspect we'll be seeing them in the near future.

Yep, I started a thread about this keyboard a few months ago.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
Look for news on the main page on Feb 1st

This is so stupid it can only be a joke right? I can't imagine anything more utterly useless.
• ShadowDancerShadowDancer When I say, "Why aye, gadgie," in my heart I say, "Och aye, laddie." London, UK
does seem rather pointless. unless its a question that requires an A B or C answer :D
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
It's kinda cool, but utterly pointless. I was rather hoping for something with at least 101 more keys.
• FreejackFreejack Jake the Not-so-Wise
If it had about 6 more keys i could see it being real useful for funtion intense softwares, like solid modeling. Especially if it had a switching key, or switched on the fly depending on the intented veiw (such as sketch view versus 3D veiw SM software).

Wow! An expensive keyboard I could spill Pepsi on... or does it have a self cleaning feature? ;)

I'm suspecting that this is just a "first release" type of deal. They're going to cater to the high-end market and likely develop the technology with the intention of it being eventually used in a proper optimus keyboard. It's likely that they'll be able to work out some of the problems and get some more cash to put towards the future with this. Also, since it's a first release and a small-scale product, it's likely it'll be somewhat expensive to produce, anyway.

I'm not saying I'd buy a dinky three key unit, though. That's just useless to me. Twelve keys, maybe. but not three.

What worries me most is this:
"Organic light-emitting diodes (OLED) in our screens last for 5000 hours of continuous use (after that they don’t die but become dimmer). The screen saving mode is designed to extend the keyboard’s lifetime. The OLED screen lasts for around three years with typical usage."

That's pretty puny in the grand scheme of things, and I could see anybody who would actually buy this device for legitimate functionality (i.e. presentation control, where it could be really useful) would be disappointed. I think a minimum of 10,000 would be needed to warrant spending that much on it. Another question is whether or not this is an even degradation, or only on certain colors. But I guess we'll have to find out.

Give it time and it'll become great.
• BigglesBiggles <font color=#AAFFAA>The Man Without a Face</font>
Chances are it's mainly on the blue ones.
• Vorlons in my HeadVorlons in my Head The Vorlons told me to.
It really looks like its mainly a pilot program to see how it works in the market and work out the bugs, see how the interface works. The problem is its expensive and totally useless. It just needs more keys! I can't think of any reason anybody would want an auxiliary 3 key keyboard. Maybe they can customize it to function as ctrl-alt-del. Then make the software really buggy and it will be a neat little vicious cycle :D Seriously speaking, this product I don't find is the right way to get taken seriously for a new company. Its just a stupid product.
• croxiscroxis I am the walrus
if nothing else it could be the 17 keys of a 10 key, so it oculd function as one (and add it to a lap top) in addition to the funkey features.

In all reality I'd get a G15 keyboard instead

I can actually think of a couple good uses for this...but only a couple. Like I said above, in presentations, this would be truly handy. I'm sure someone could work out a navigation system operable by only three buttons, responding to various chords and the number of keytaps. The important part is that it can display multimedia content. Example: Switching between video feeds for a presentation to ease the need for some of us to risk embarassment by forgetting which slide came next, or hell, just keeping it on-hand to trigger an event, like cueing a video stream or such. They sound kind of weak, but I think it has potential. Plus, it's cool. Really cool.
• Random ChaosRandom Chaos Actually Carefully-selected Order in disguise
Well, if you want 12 keys, you could always pick of 4 of them :p
• SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
The site says that only one would work on a given system, so that's a big "No" to that. But nothing stops you from putting them on your desk and taping images to the buttons ;)
