Heee! I used to be a student, over 1.5 years ago, so I can sympathise with Biggles. Still though, when you start working, all these expenses suddenly jump out of nowhere. A bit annoying really.

Babylon 5 on DVD!! Yes!
This is great news, indeed. I hope that Sinclair gets the recognition and credit he deserves
and is featured prominently, front and center, on the art for the 1st Season box set.
It's great to hear that Babylon 5 will be shown in it's full movie-like widescreen format
that it was originally shot in. So, the DVD's will be anamorphically enhanced for widescreen t.v.'s?
I hope they get real experts to handle the transfer, so the video and sound are of the very
highest quality. But about this 5.1 sound. The show was intended to be seen on t.v. in stereo.
So, will the DVD's include the original stereo/Dolby 2.0 soundtrack, so we can listen to the show
as it was originally presented? I'm a purist when it comes to such things.
As far as how to watch the DVD's, forget sitting in front of a computer. I'll take my WEGA
and hi-fi sound gear any day.

Actually, I believe the Sound was recorded in mind that it would be presented in good Surround Sound...then for tv, it was cut down (just like the filmed in widescreen, shown on tv in 4:3)
But JMS said the sound is being being "remastered" for the 5.1, that implies they are mixing
the sound in a way it was never done before.
I certainly hope they make the original stereo/DD 2.0 sound available for all the episodes.
JMS certainly was smart about shooting B5 in movie format, as well as HD (IIRC).

I think the sound was recorded in dolby surround, which is below dolby 5.1.

And the single rear surround channel is actually a compressed stream in the broadcast, Dolby Surround is ok, better than nothing, but nothing like Dolby Digital 5.1 or DTS.
