The only problem with that is sound, unless you've got good sound on your computer,
My MPEG decoder also does Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS output.

I don't know why you think that. Watching a DVD on a PC is great for a couple of reasons: The picture is clearer than you'll get on ANY TV that's not high-definition (and even better than HD in some cases). And some PCs have a pretty good sound system.

How do the TV-Out video cards to for resolution on the TV when you are playing DVD's?
The display from the video-out jack is the same as the resolution on your PC's monitor. (ie: If you view at 1024x768, your S-video jack will pump out video at 1024x768. Whether the TV supports that resolution is a different matter however. Most TVs recognize above 640x480. If your TV has HDTV capability, you can view at a decent resolution.

Yeah. I watch my Farscape DVDs on my PC. I've got my computer hooked up to my stereo so audio isn't an issue either. 4 200W speakers....heheheh, cheap surround sound!

I've got a 22" monitor, and the Klipsch Promedia THX-certified surround speakers with 400 watt subwoofer. I'm in good shape for DVDs.

A 17" monitor is great for personal viewing, and we have movie parties around a 17" with 10 or so people all the time by setting it up in the lounge. Bigger would be nice, but I would take a monitor over a TV any day simply for the clarity of picture.

Hmm, I'd need a very long cable to get from my computer to the tv in the lounge... anyway I haven't got a dvd player in my computer. I hate watching stuff like that on my computer. Watched Legend OTR alright which was fine. If I had a nice Apple 23" HDTV LCD I'd watch dvd's on it, but I don't have £3,000 idle. I think I'll invest in a cinema speaker setup for the B5 dvds. I currently have the dvd and video player hooked up to my house mates very powerfull Aiwa hifi, but the sound is not as good when playing dvds. It really needs a digital amp, and some surround speakers. Will probably end up with a Sony one.

Hey, if I could afford a high definition widescreen tv, I'd take it. But I can't so I'll go with the next best thing: a monitor.

Hey, I used to watch Farscape episodes on my 17" monitor while I'd lay on my bed. (the monitor is a good 16ft away from my face)

I have a 19" monitor.
[This message has been edited by samuelk (edited 06-16-2002).]
For instance, the head if my bed is about 4 1/2 feet from my moniter, but about 8 feet from my television. Sizes are 17" and 24", respectively.
And my computer sound is a hell of alot better than the sound that comes out of my TV speakers.
I would rather have sharp then big for myself.
