Yeah the Blackbird would be a special case, probably a mix of all the best Viper and Raptor attributes, plus a few more.
She would be designed for stealth which leads to recon and hit-n-run missions where you don't risk losing all your hard work as much.
And if Galactica has to jump in to launch the Blackbird...the element of surprise is lost.

The Blackbird is not really a Viper even though thats more or less what they intended to be at first. Its a completely different ship to anything else. I think its a given that it must have an FTL drive since a sub light recon vehicle would be rather useless. Its also bigger than a Viper and has the engines located on the outsibe "wings" so that leaves all the center section to be filled up with other goodies like the FTL drive.
The issue with Pegasus I don't think will actually take that long to resolve. Cain will probably die one way or another next episode. It's just a matter of who/how. She keeps her crew inline by fear and intimidation and while she will have her loyal followers I doubt a lot of the crew will really miss her all that much. Remember Pegasus is filled with over 700 crewmembers that were forcefully recruited from her old fleet and even her own X.O. doesn't appear to be behind her. It's been rumored that Peggy will be around until the end of this season. The question is who's going to command it. Lee? Kara? Frisk? TIGH!!!?

Eventually, and soon, she'll be destroyed in a cylon attack, leaving the story line to follow BSG and its rag-tag fleet of civilan ships to search for earth.
Someone has probably mentioned this already but I've avoided reading the list as I haven't seen BSG's latest yet... how come on the torrent sites, SG Atlantis is available up to episode 15? I was expecting to find the "latest" ep as aired on sci fi on friday night... has it been aired some where else like Canada first since the show stopped for its break on Sc Fi? If so its a bit odd as SG1 didn't return any such results, just ep 11 as I expected.

If pegasus is indeed going to stick around for a while after Cain dies (if she does) I think Adama will want someone he trusts in command this time, which most likely will be someone from his crew.

Well, the quality of the Canadian episodes, the story that is, has been fairly poor...
Ah right that makes sense, kinda. Odd they'd stop the show on US tv and left it continue on Canadian.
Man what a super episode!!!! The tension just kept building and building. Hell there was more tension in that ep of BSG than in both eps of SG1 and Atlantis!
I'm with Rick on the XO taking Cain out. He's been pushed too far, forced to carry out too many immoral orders. It will probably come down to Starbuck just about to pull her gun out only for the XO to beat her too it. And I agree the XO will take over. Sure he's not Galactica crew but he seems a good man.
I do wonder though about the Pegasus hanging round. I doubt it will. I have a feeling Galactica will continue to Earth with Pegasus going back to Caprica to rescue survivors.

There was a difference in opinions in that one too. The Pegasus eventually went her own way taking on a Cylon Basestar, while Galactica made a run for it with the civ fleet.
The question is Cain I guess, will she be off'ed, or brigged, or come to a change of heart like Adama did with Laura after nearly being taken out?
Yep the episode was called Living Legend with Lloyd Bridges as Cain who was supposed to be a highly regarded war hero. It was a two parter. Main difference is Cain was a hot headed commander equal in rank to Adama. At the end Pegasus transfered all the crew and fighters to Galactica and took on some basetars by itself with a skeleton crew while Galactica made a run for it with the fleet I think. At the end the Pegasus disappears before it can be destroyed. I think that was how it went. It was left open to possibly rejoin in the future in the next seasons which never came to be.

I'm pretty sure Starbuck isn't going to do it...because that sure didn't look like Katie's hand holding the gun in the commercial...either that or she has some massively hairy knuckles...

But that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be Katee who's going to pull the trigger... don't forget Helo and Tyrel are still on Pegasus.
IIRC the XO is supposed to join the CIC on Galactica to be the eyes and ears of Cain, so he can't be the one to off the admiral since he's going to be watching over/taking care of Adama.

If you ask me the best way to take out Cain is to use Gina. She wants to die and certainly has no love for Cain. Why not kill two birds with one stone. Somehow arrange for her to be in a position to shoot Cain. In retaliation she gets shot immediately afterwards. Cain is gone and no one is the wiser that it was really an assasination. It was just the evil cylon who did it in the eyes of the Pegasus crew.

You are right, both Apollo and Starbuck are right-handed, so Apollo could also be the one holding the gun.
As for anyone else killing Cain, I don't think there are that many people in the know concerning the assassination attempt. Even Helo and Tyrol don't know about the plan, neither do Gaius or Gina.
I suppose it could be someone we don't know about who's part of those civilians who had do suffer through Cain's military draft and just happens to be in a homicidal set of mind.
I don't think her XO would go so far as to kill her. He's still her XO even if he doesn't agree with her methods. We should not forget that they are at war and they actually need every single human if they are to have a fighting chance against the Cylons.
