Spoiler: I'm a bit curious about the actual jumping into the mountain bit. If they were picking up the transponder, wouldn't it mean the ship was *intact* and that none of the circuitry was mangled by the combination with rocks? And along those lines, that the ship would actually be sitting inside a raptor-shaped cavity, devoid of non-raptor material? (which would also mean they could, theoretically, power up the FTL drive and make a jump out of the rock, since the FTL drive appears to not require motion of any sort to engage...right? I highly doubt a transponder would function if it suddenly became a hybrid rock/circuit device :P This isn't to say didn't materialize in a rock, but that it just wasn't .
Spoiler: I've always wondered about the physics of teleportation ever since I was a five and really into Star Trek: The Next Generation. What happens to the air that previously occupied the place where people/equipment/whatever now are? Does it occupy the same space? Obviously not, as that would cause some rather serious problems (like explosions). Does it occupy the same space on a much smaller scale? I doubt it. That would basically result in a lot of unstable, radioactive material. Does it create a void that it then fills with teleported material? What happens to that stuff? I have never seen anyone actually address this, and though FTL isn't strictly teleportation (in fact, it definitely isn't), it still raises similar problems.

Spoiler: If they did instantaneously create a Raptor shaped cavity in the mountain, then I doubt the occupants of said Raptor would survive going from very fast to very still in a very short time. Perhaps transponders are made of more durable stuff.
Now that is quite true and something I had not considered. So yeah. They're probably pretty dead and the raptor nicely smashed against the front of the raptor-shaped hole.

Nonsense, he's just trying to throw us off track. I'll stick with my my belief until I'm proven right :P
Spoiler: I was ambivalent about that episode. It lacked the relentless intensity I've come to expect from Battlestar. If anything, things moved too quickly, like it should have been two hours, but they had to cut it short. Why they couldn't simply have done away with that stupid black market episode and made more of this, I don't know.
Still, what it lacked in narrative structure and pacing was made up for in potential. I was really concerned that this show was going to be written into stasis: Cylons behind, Earth ahead, and nothing but mediocrity in between. But they seem quite willing to take bold choices and mess things up, and they've created serious potential for where the show's going from here.
Remains to be seen where that will be or whether it will actually be good, but the worst things about that episode were Brother Cylon and Adama's mustache. Well, and Baltar's harem. I mean, that was a bit much. I did really, really love Six's death scene, however.
WOW!
While I agree that things were rushed, (two hours would have been better) it was still an excellent episode. Kudos to the BSG producers and writers for thickening the plot in this way. In the past, most other series waited until the show became stale before trying something big (Dare I say, HUGE!).
The "big" stuff aside, I find myself NOT liking Starbuck as much and really liking Col. Tigh instead. The fact that he would rig the election shows initiative that he lacked early on.
I also like when the refugees were in the fleet, they lived a lot better than after they settled down on the planet. The planet made them look much more ragtag and even a little pathetic.
How the writers will get our heros out of this one, I will never know! (That is, until October.) ;)
Spoiler: Having read some of the spoilers for this episode before watching it tonight I was worried. It came off a lot better than I had feared...
I'm going to take a gamble and say I believe the Baltar/Six relationship will now turn around 180. She is looking for his affections and that "Click" they had, and he is now burnt out on the whole affair because of the Atomic Six iteration, and feeling betrayed by her.
I think Roslin also has her Cylon baby card to play yet.
I think Starbuck will either lose her husband and mess up Apollo's life again, and/or the cylon looking for her at the tent might be Scar reincarnated in a human body... oooh that would be wild...
Lots of possibilities and so I feel better about this hanger now than I did a few days ago.

LOL, yeah, that's what I was thinking too, although he reminded me more of Gaffe in Blade Runner, minus the hat and trenchcoat. :D
Spoiler: I agree, the episode seemed a bit rushed and could have used more time. The touch with the Cylon priest was nice and it made me laugh.
I didn't care too much for the "One Year Later" plot device, especially considering how they dealt with the settlement on New Caprica. I don't think football games would be the first thing to come to mind when the remnants of human civilization settle on a new planet. The shortages of antibiotics didn't seem believable either. The surgeon should be running a medical facility, training medical staff, not doing house calls. This seems all too simplistic, considering the period of time that supposedly passed. A few weeks at most would have been more believable IMHO. They dropped realism for a quick fix. I mean, how long does it take to set up a few tents?
Spoiler: I think the low level of progress might be directly attributable to President Baltar. Given his finesses and wisdom in dealing with Tyrol's union, I can only imagine what happened when Dr. Cottle came and asked for the resources to build a proper clinic on New Caprica.
Baltar: Come now, doctor. I was able to cure cancer while on a bus ride. Surely you can treat the common cold inside a man's own home.
Cottle: Listen, asshole, I haven't gotten a cigarette in three months, and last night some kinda rat rubbed feces in my equipment. I need a proper facility or I'll start curing people with a pistol.
Baltar: I tell you what. I'm sure if only treat, say, the most attractive citizens of New Caprica *three women and one young man walk out from Baltar's bedchamer* I'm sure you'll have more than enough time to build your "clinic."
Cottle: *Is escorted out by the goon squad, while making a mental note to use the desterilized needles at Baltar's next physical.*
Spoiler: These weren't large spectator matches. It was just some guys who liked the game.
Ever see people playing soccer in, say, Afghanistan? Sometimes you play because your life is hell and your world is a disaster.
As for the settlement being a disaster, considering the quality of their leadership and their general unpreparedness for settlement, it's not really hard to believe. The 'one year later' thing wasn't really well established as a narrative device, but the actual events all make sense, and I suspect we'll be going into detail in the next season.

Spoiler: I guess so, but then I didn't believe Baltar's behavior either. Somehow it seems like nobody told the actors about the "One Year Later" thing. Baltar looked like he'd just celebrated his victory, not been living on booze and girls for a year. I also don't think he could be living like a dictator without risking a coup from the military. I guess I'm just nitpicking.

Spoiler:
That cylon was Leoban from the first season. He's probably looking for starbuck because oh, maybe he has an axe to grind with her seeing as he was beaten tortured and almost drowned. Oh yeah, not to mention thrown out alive out an airlock. Even if you reincarnate thats gotta be a painfull way to go and REMEMBER it.
The episode really did seem really rushed but that has been typical of the whole last part of the season. Too much going on and too many episodes were used to close off loose ends from the first season at the beginning of the season. I hope for season 3 they can figure out how to better distribute the story.
Dean Stockwells character was awesome. "take me to your leader" that was funny stuff.
I can't believe Gina blew up Cloud 9. Never give a nuke to a suicidal bitch.
I was a bit surprised they are still living in tents after about a year but a few things came to mind. It was stated that living in this planet would have been very difficult do to limited natural resources. It didn't look like there was anything other than dirt around there. Not even vegetation or trees to construct shacks out of. With Baltarts superb leadership its only more unlikely. Seems to me the conditions are even worse in many ways than a cramped ship and I think thats the point they want to make. Eventually they'll realize that dump of a planet is not much better than what they have.
I'm really interested how the fleet escaping is going to work out. The fleet is back to square one again. They can't take on that many basestars, they have skeleton crews, and there is no way they can plan a rescue mission now. They are not even aware the cylons have made a truce and the surface population has surrendered.
Spoiler: Well, the fleet's most major need is manpower; Galactica and Pegasus won't even have a snowball's chance in hell if they don't have enough people to run the ships. The most logical way to go about this is to either double back to the Colonies in hopes that the Cylons are still gone and they can find a few hundred survivors who are willing to help. They could also redouble their efforts to find Earth in hopes that they'll have people or equipment that can help.

Good stuff, I'm liking Katie as an actress more by the day. Plus she looks better with the longer hair.
Opinions differ on her looks, some liked her short hair better, others her ponytail and some her "fake" long hair. I have no opinion on that matter either way.
What intrigues me more is what I've been picking up in the video blog and elsewhere in interviews on the web that the actress may actually be pregnant. Methinks they are taking their roles of saving the human race a bit too seriously. :D
Spoiler: Hoookay, now that RDM has put this show on its ear and we are faced with a long walk through the desert until october, what do you think is going to happen next?
I believe that there are chances that RDM may still tie in a few aspects of the original show and put Baltar on a "throne" inside a basestar. :D
While I do have a hard time accepting that one year has supposedly passed since the elections, some have pointed out that this could still be a dream sequence and the RDM may still step back from this turn of events. I doubt that this is the case, especially following RDM's own statements about staging some kind of Cylon occupation of the settlement on New Caprica over the period of 4-5 episodes.
Others also have pointed out that it was a poor choice to have all characters evolve so quickly without telling us what happened during said year. It's a bold move for sure and it will make things interesting but not everyone will appreciate this.
It was fun while it lasted. Perhaps RDM shouldn't have done this in the season finale. Somehow it doesn't fit right. Also it's stated that EJO (Bill Adama) will not be returning for the 3rd season which would be very disappointing. It's one thing to like diversity, another to frakk with Grandma's recipes. RDM did kill Capt. Kirk... I guess I'm not surprized. :(

Where did that last part come from? Everything I've seen, officially and unofficially, has the whole and entire cast returning next year.
RDM's audio blog, about 25.5 minutes into it they mention something to that effect, but as it turns out, it's just a bad joke. They talked about Dean Stockwell being back, but not Eddie Olmos and that they would replace him with an animated version. I think the blue Johnny Walkers they were having were kicking in. :D
From another website:
"The entire Battlestar Galactica ensemble will return, including Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park. As previously announced, Lucy Lawless will also join the cast for a 10-episode arc, reprising her role as D'Anna Biers, a Cylon."
Spoiler: I also liked the whole 'lightyear away thing'...Being a person who willingly suspends disbelief and doesn't often debate too much the technical points...IF they detected the explosion from one lightyear away...wouldn't it have taken a year for them to detect the explosion, then ANOTHER year to reach the planet? Unless, as I myself have considered before, FTL jumps aren't TECHNICALLY linear jumps, but instantaneous through 'subspace' or something like that
The show will eventually go back into space and start fleeing for whatever reason until they find earth. I think RDM's reasoning behind this new twist is that you need to do something bold to keep things interesting. I mean, I do love the constant running but you can only have so many asteroid moon raids, ressurrection ship assaults and space combat scenes before things just start feeling repetitive. The whole settlement issue is just one major setback until the resume the true goal of finding Earth. I just wonder if when they get there, they'll run into a sign saying, sorry closed for remodelation, please come back in one century.
