  • To move too a new host don't you just have to compile one file?

The more I think about a domain I have reserved with Network Solutions cost 75.00 till 2009. No activity no nothing just to reserve the name. internet real estate cost allot even when not in use.

well, I officially moved, and closed out my infinology account.

Theres a lot more stuff at Dreamhost, and it seems to be faster. I switched our message boards from ikonboard to phpBB, was able to keep all my members and previous posts as well. Got just about all the extra options on phpBB installed except for the calender mod, that one takes a lot more coding to do, and I'm being lazy.

One of the mods for phpBB I like is the imbedded image gallery. Each user can host his own image gallery, uploading pictures of whatever they want, the links inside them are small enough that if you allow hosting off your site, they can use it to host pictures to other sites. With the amount of bandwidth given out by dreamhost, I dont see it being a problem yet... ;) We will see what comes of it, if it gets abused at all.

Ive also got an IRC host imbedded into the forums now, so you dont have to open a seperate client to log into it.

Did you decide to stay with Radius Co San?

Moves can be a pain becuase files often use hard coded paths (Sanfam: note that the news submition file does that - you'll have to change the path in it). Plus DB names sometimes are forced to change, installed libraries have to be synced, etc. Very time consuming on a well established site.
  • SanfamSanfam I like clocks.
My decision ain't final, but I'm swaying towards sticking here.

What's difficult to move? Shouldn't be more than a db dump, few path changes and then...

EDIT: the admin thing should be easy to move anyway...
