Magnificent Desolation

in Zocalo v2.0
While I was in Sydney, where they have an Imax theatre that still shows Imax movies, I went to see Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon in 3D.
There are simply no words. Even From the Earth to the Moon doesn't compare, Tom Hanks has out done himself with this one. I finally have a real idea of the sense of scale of a LEM to a person to the landscape around it, what it's like to look at the lunar landscape, how magnificently barren it is there, and how beautiful.
The film also features some amazing manipulation of original footage to produce great scenes, such as
the lift off of the Apollo 17 lander ascent stage
, takes a halirious poke at the "It was all faked!" fools
with a blooper real of Neil Armstrong's first descent down the ladder (think lots of slips on the ladder and seeing Neil hanging by very visible strings, and stereotypical NASA science geeks with pocket protectors and thick, black-rimmed glasses operating all the set equipment)
,
a scene that shows you exactly how hard it is to judge scale by having the astronauts walking around, then Houston tell them they're literally on the edge of a trench hundreds of metres deep, and they didn't even notice
,
a very inspiring scene with a current-generation kid who has every intention of walking on the moon herself and won't let anything get in her way
,
some real footage of astronauts falling on the moon
, and finally
it finishes with a beautifully imagined scene of a full, complex, permanant moon base as it would be done with current technology
.
If you ever get the chance, go and see this film. Even if you have to spend all day flying to get to the Imax theatre showing it. Do whatever you have to do, just see it in an Imax theatre. It will restore your dreams.

I can't believe that noone else here has seen this movie. That's really disappointing.
I saw it last month at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, I was floored, It was amazing.
Especially after having just stood next to a Saturn V rocket, and sat in front of all the actual consoles from the Apollo missions.
the movie was fanfrickintastic.
It was the one on the Shuttle!
OMFG!
:p
I can only imagine what this one is like.
:)
Then stop imagining and go see it. :)
I can check to see if it's coming anywhere near Nashville, otherwise IMAX is nothing more that the name of a foreign beer around here... :p

I think they probably heard my cheer on the other side of my apartment building.
I'm curious though as to what this video is going to show us, because it's not going to be in 3D.
it's well, Magnificent..
You are aware that Sydney isn't in the US, aren't you? :p
And there's an IMAX just 35mins drive from here. Oh well. Is it worth flying all the way to the US to see it? :D
I believe I said as much in my very first post.
