You like clocks eh?
Comments
Anyway, I think it all goes down to my fascination with mechanical systems.
Any reason for asking?
And Eclecticonaut, 'tis unwise to tempt fate with such thought ;)
A friend of mine made me jealous by getting a sand-powered clock. It's just another form of gravity clock, but it's surprisingly accurate. Bases its motions on, of course, sand falling from a bulb into small buckets in the geartrain. it's just too damned cool.
I just love watching complex mechanical arrangements do work, like assembly lines. There used to be a exhibit at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry that was a mini-factory that assembled and packaged toy tops, all completely automated, from parts picking, to package, to the custom nameplate that was added to each one purchased. I could have stood and watched that process run for hours.

I do Indeed like clocks. They're damned neat, and my long-term goal is to collect as many distinct styles as I can. Of course, I'm kind of slow on that front.
You should meet my mum, she can't stop buying the bloody things... Seriously. (They're mostly antique.) Tell you what, I could take a few pictures if you're interested. ;)
Quite amazing!

Im reading through a book on the history of human culture right now, and considering what definition you give on the word 'culture'. Mankind have been culturalized for either ~12000 years or ~42000 years.
Now, the first evidence of city states is ~5500 years old, The first evidence of Egyptian culture is ~5000 years old, and most other cultures started evolving avout 3000 years ago.
A lot have happened since then. And this is only what we have knowledge of today. In 5500 years, many things can be destroyed. Cultures might have blossomed that didnt use lasting materials like brick and stone (the vikings used wood, but that culture is of course not near as old), or who were situated in a place where breakdown of such materials are much more rapid than in the middle east (Papua New Guinea for example).
Staggering.
Anyway. Clocks are neat.
Interesting. The more I read about whats being found, I realize just how much have been lost...
Heh, I watched with interest the several videos that Graham Handcock had done that were played on TLC a few years ago.
Although the interpretations run the gambit, it is clear that people on the Earth had an extraordinary knowledge of math, astronomy, and other things at a point somewhere around 13,000 years ago.
The evidence for many locations around the Earth being based upon that knowledge of the heavens at that point in time for temples and such are obvious. What is NOT so obvious is who, how, and why...
I am a firm believer in the idea that a high culture existed during the ice age, and that the catastrophic demise of the large glacial ice shelfs over the continents in the span of ~20 years by some estimates screwed a lot of people, and changed their way of life forever...
But that's a belief, and not quite factual yet...
:D
Sanfam liking clocks? Dude. You have no idea. Get into a video conference with him some time and you might get an inkling.
For the record, I think I may have permanently scarred Biggles. Especially with the AK.
In 5500 years, many things can be destroyed.
Much shorter time is enough, just remember some Mesoamerican cultures like Aztecs or Mayas.
Or Incas in South America.

Good, that clears up some of my paranoia!

Weird.
I expected him to be like the guy in his avatar... :p
You know, its somewhat sad that I knew about that poor, Riddler-wannbe bastard before I actually got cable. I would've been surprised by the fact that a man covered in question marks (and what the hell does a bunch of ?'s have to do with Government Grants?) would scream at me from the television while prancing about Washington D.C..
On the other hand, I do have a certain fondness for that wackjob, now, so I guess it evens out.
Weird.

He is. You're just seeing a still shot of his "I love my AK-47" expression. When he's animated, it's exactly like that guy. Only more focused on clocks and his random lamps. :D
Remove the letter L and see, what I read first.
You know, everytime I read this thread for some reason Eclecticonaut's comment just keep jumping out.

I mean dinner. I meant to say dinner.
