Basically: I hate non-linear games
Its fun when you know who the bad guys are. But Its even more fun when your not sure who the good guys are.
Cant someone just give me a new game like Independence War 2.....I want an almost-linear game.....a game with a strong story you can follow.
Basically: I hate non-linear games
They happen on occasion, but the biggest problem is that the genres in which these types of stories are featured keep switching around.
I think the rush of non-linear games is possibly in part due to the equally strong rush of complaints regarding the *lack* of non-linear gameplay in games at the time, and we are seeing the results. With the current population being largely non-linear outside of consoles, it's quite likely that it'll swing back, but keep in mind that the internet has acted as a wildcard on a number of locations, with MMORPGs sprouting up so incredibly quickly over the years, now truly dominating the arena and possibly oversaturating the market. Of course, I really do like good singleplayer campaigns, but they're hard to come by and typically remove the possibility of strong replay value if they're not too dynamic.
Because, after Myst and Riven, I've found the rest to be rather dull.
Yanno, i STILL haven't finished TLJ, i've still got it on my machine, but haven't had the time
I've missed good Adventure games (much like the Sierra On Line games of the late 80's early 90's,) all the Quest series games, those were great.
And for the most part they seem to have dissapeared, along with Wing Commander/Xwing type games. i've not seen a good one come down the pike in years.
MMORPG's are still not quite there IMHO, there is great potential, but nobody has lived up to it,. even with things like StarWars Galaxies, its all about individual play,
I'd be interested in something like that, set in the SW universe, or B5, or startrek or something new, but something that is linear, but with uncertain outcome, but a true MASSIVE game, were you have three sides, two combattants and a "neutreal" side, the game has a set beginning time you'd buy into it, knowing it starts on a specific date and you't let the 2 sides battle it out, with the nutrals selling to either side, or siding with either, let the people who like stratagy set up the battles, the people who like space combat fly the missions, etc etc.
that may not sound very coherent, i was having a hard time putting the idea down into words, but i think you get the idea of what i'm describing.
THAT woudl be a great game IMHO.
In the last PC Gamer there was an article about how one person in SW pulled together a full, corrordinated rebl asalt (woa look at my spelling ma) and kicked the empire's rear. Epic team play can be done.
Really? see thats what i'd be interested in,
I know the core group here has always been gamers (since it WAS a forum for the game) and I always considered myself a gamer, i used to play constantly, but now, i've become so bored with the games, i rarely play, i think the first KOTOR may be the last game i bought.
I think some sort of largscale epic game would be brilliant, but for all the MMORPG's ive tried, they all fall short.
I seem to be in the miniority in that I'm perfectly happy with zero replay value if the single player is great. Take, for example, The Longest Journey. Or Beyond Good & Evil.
I agree, if I want a non-linear game, I got something called "Life". I want to enjoy a good story. A non-linear game may be good, but only if I don't "feel" that it is non-linear. Fahrenheit is for example really good, but then again, I liked the last game they made, Omikron - The Nomad Soul too. That game was excellent.
Once upon a time, I led a very skilled group of pilots in the squad Ars Quantus Militis, hence the sigs Ive always had. AQM has grown beyond the game, but we are actually considering a bit of a revival. Even after 2 years, if I reactivate my account I will be in the top 25 in kills on the server.
Its actually a fun game if enough people are logged in, you might want to try it.
(speaking on a monthly basis, that is)
