Here's a link to some pics...

16.12 acres (mostly wooded), 3 BD /2 BA Log Home built
in 1998 with ~1750 sqr ft not including a complete
basement. I have a room dedicated to my computers and
is my office. I'm getting ready to build a wood shop
in part of the basement.
We have White Tail deer, White Tail Rabbits, Black
Snakes, Hawks, Owls, Raccoons, etc... :D
All for half of what we sold our miniscule home in CA for...
Very happy and settled... ;)
Cheers!

I'll be over your place in a few days you want me to bring some elk too?
Jake
Then I start work at a local Walmart to keep a positive cash flow... Wife's there now, can you believe she gets $ .20 an hour more than I do... hah hah, it's alright though...
:p :D
Cabl3 Guy, bring the Elk, and I'll bring the beer!
BBQ is an all year round sport! ;)
Biggles, there's plenty of room here... :D
wow that place looks awesome! all you need now is a small lake with some fish in it and it would be close to my idea of heaven. only problem then would be getting me out into the rest of society:D
Heh, well there is a huge lake 1.5 miles down the road from our property that's good for just that! :D
Center Hill Lake, middle Tennessee... ;)
As I was telling Biggles a few weeks ago, this whole Cumberland Platuea is layer after layer of old sea beds from millions of years ago, so I get to fossil hunt as well as fish! :D

But who cares about fishes if there's something much more interesting under feets?

Nice place, i"ve been looking at a few places quite like it up here in Maine, but damn that down payment does seem large, lol
I am curious how long does it take to mow the lawn? Do you have a mower with 12 speed and headlights?

"Mow?" What is this "mow?"
Very nice indeed, you have enough space to build a B5 compound.. just kidding..

The parts that you see that are mowed were done with a Bolens 15.5 HP Twin Blade 38" 6 speed riding lawn mower.

Just a few hours of mindless driving basically. Nice way to spend a sunny afternoon with a few beers.
;)
That was a few weeks ago, and it's holding up nice, probably because we are heading into fall. Many of the leaves have fallen already so I've been using the (category 5) leaf blower a lot... :p

IIRC, those models have a modular driveshaft which can be connected to an insanely powerful leaf blower. Though, you could also mulch said leaves with the mower part, but that's not fun ;)

Yep, has a PTO feature...
;)
And Biggles, it is required operating procedure out here when mowing... ;)
I mean, the beer holder is built in...
:D

1) What are the people like?
2) Is getting a Walmart job a stop-gap solution until you find a techie one in the area? I've read quite a bit about `insourcing' lately, you may be able to find a good telecommuting job if you have high speed internet and the desire to isolate yourself from day to day human interaction. :)
3) What's the home appreciation rate relative to the national average (I guess this won't matter as much if you plan to stick around for a while)
Only down side is that there are no volcanoes to visit in the whole state...
Or fresh mountain ranges.
Maybe there's something interesting down below just waiting wearing off that covering junk.
Although it might take little time...
Newpaper had today article about gold searching made in last twenty years which has found most of known over 100 deposits, oldest gold ores are 2700Ma old while "younger" deposits are 1800-1900Ma old.
Well... that almost qualifys them as young formations here in Finland. :D
Congratulations, that looks like a great move. However, a few questions.
1) What are the people like?
It's amusing how many people are from California around here. There appearantly was a mass exodus about 20 years ago...
People are much friendlier and helpful around here. Every place has it's bad people, but there aren't as many out here as far as I can tell.

Walmart is a low stress approach to positive cash flow for me. Yes, I intend to do work via internet as time goes on, but I doubt I'll let go of the Walmart job any time soon.

We do plan to stay, but just to answer the question, recently Tennessee just came out of a slump with Real Estate.
The reason? All these hurricanes...
Lot's of people from Florida these days.
;)
Our timing was perfect. Literally a few days longer and we wouldn't have found this one, and a few months longer the deals we saw the previous year don't exist anymore.

Yeah the Mississippi basin may sink again and become yet another shallow sea. 'Course you never know what batholithic monster is waiting just below. :D
Not much granite around here... Not much gold panning either.
:)
I can't tell if that's farming area or not. Is there any tobacco farming in the region? I'm curious if the area went through any major agricultural changes with the changed markets.
Regardles, it looks beautiful. You're timing was impeccable.

The general region is farming area yeah, but there all these beautiful little sections of woods and hollows around here. Nortrhern Tennessee has more of the pine/cedar forestation, but I know how to make changes in that department for my property. :)
Yes there is Tobacco farming. Just south of here in Rock Island for example there was a place that just harvested a Tobacco crop about a month or so ago.
There is a Tobacco exchange near Crossville (co-op kind of thing I guess)...
Mostly hay farming around here, although I have seen some Corn Fields around too.
I've run into lots of people from the North East areas too, such as Maryland, Michigan, etc. Most of them are coming here to do farming...
So there is hope...
