DVD's out mid-November!!

"On the DVDs, last I heard they'll be out around mid-November, with the whole
first season at about a hundred bucks. I did the commentaries on Signs and
Portents and Chrysalis, and an on-camera intro and interview. They've also
done new interviews with Rick Biggs, Claudia, John Iacovelli, John Copeland,
Stephen Furst, Jerry Doyle and others. So it should be a pretty big deal
overall, much better than the movie dvd."

    Hundred bucks was just about the price I expected them to be on the market. Good. And mid-November is around one and a half months before I get out of the service (if my plans don't fail) so I should have the cash by then. hopefully the price has dropped a bit due to the late purchase... guess not, though but one can hope.     God. Now THAT is a rip-off. For the same number of episodes and, if I am to believe my niece, excellent commentary and extra features, the Buffy second season DVD set costs half that. WB lost one customer in me, with that pricing.

    I think the pricing is great... that will put it at about the same as each season of Star Trek up here in Canuckland.

    Gotta remember, this is going to be more expensive because they are kinda nuilding from nothing, since the show is no longer airing much. Buffy, on the other hand, is still airing so still has an active audience to buy their shows. I would assume that is part of WB's thinking.

    Did i mention that waiting till november is going to suck, I'm jonsing to watch B5 i keep looking at my video tapes and then saying "no, just wait a little longer, then you'll have B5 in Dolby Digital 5.1. just wait, be patient"

    ? Is that confirmed that they are remastering the audio to DD 5.1 from dolby surround? If so, then it is worth the $100, as buffy is NOT remastered, it is just Dolby 2.0. And yes, the cost for production has to be weighed against the volume sold- the B2 stealth bomber comes in over a billion apiece because the govt ordered so few of them- same holds true here. You can't spread the fixed costs over as many units, so you have to charge more per unit to make a profit.

    $100, I think that is pretty bad if that's US dollar. Most 1 season show collections are running $60-70. I'll wait for ebay.

    If you look at Box sets for other sci-fi shows like Star Trek: TNG, Farscape ($20 for two episodes), The X-Files (around $149 retail for one season), it's really not that bad.

    And keep in mind that $100 price tag is [i]retail price[/i]. Most sites will likely sell it for 15-25% less.

    It's actually cheaper than the box sets of STTNG are here, and they're in really flash cases and have heaps of extras.

    I wonder what the case design will be like for the dvd's? I'm really looking forward to the design for the boxes. Maybe they'll do a Special Edition Shadow Ultimate Collectors Must Have Edition, which can phase in and out of hyperspace when ever it feels like it. The gap in your shelf of dvd's would be a talking point...
