Update on the Wayward Daughter

Just thought i'd give y'all an update,
When we last left off.. My 17 year old daugher had decided that she' was ready for life, and ran off to nyc.
well here we are some 2.5 months later. and guess who's coming home today...
Aparently, nither she, nor her 19 year old boyfriend were able to find Jobs in NYC, so they are coming here to work for the last month of the season before heading back to NYC.
This is as close to a "You were right and i was wrong" as we'll get out of her, but i expect she'll be back again before the end of the winter when she's cold and hungry.

Fuck the city
[B]Yeah man I had the same fuckin problem I tried every bar/restaurant/deli/foodstand/clothes store we probably even crossed each other applying to these things. Its bs they all play the same game out there. I go to KB TOYS & I get an interview for thursday the boss is on at a doctors exam getting his teeth checked...OBVIOUSLY its some sort of test to see if IM WORTHY OF KB. I waited 30 mins then went to my other interview. ITs like lets how long he'll put up with this bs.

well part of it is how underqualified she is, she's a 17 year old runaway with no skills, why would they hire her at minimum wage when they can hire an illegal with no skils for $1/hour
Here's hoping she stays after the first month and realises she would be better off finishing her education.
[B]You know, I was just wondering about this the other day. Good to hear she's coming back. Is she going to move back in for this supposed one month of working or is she going to live elsewhere?

she wants to stay with her boyfriend who's coming up with her, and we said that he couldnt stay, basically, we told her that if she wanted to come home, we'd take her in, but we're not supporting her for the month she's staying, she's gotta earn her own way, just like a real grownup would have to.
I hope she realises how much better off she is here. but who knows.
We did look into at least getting her her GED. so she'll have something.

whats a GED?
I know it sounds harsh, but i think the best way to convince her of her error is to do just that and treat her totally as if she were an adult and make her pay for her board and lodgings. realising she has no skills to apply against a job should wake her up. and as for her boyfriend....theres no way id let my hypothetical 17 yr old daughter bring him home to stay!

GED stands for, I believe, Graduate Equivalency Diploma. I think. It's a way of getting a highschool diploma if you failed/dropped out of High School. In this day and age, if you don't have a High School Diploma, you're going nowhere. Hell, even frycooks must have (or be attempting) one now.

You're more patient and kind than I am. I'd have changed the locks once she left. No, I'm not kidding. "You want to be on your own, then be on your own." Good luck.

One thing I learned about the city is do not be honest on your applications to anything. LIE YOUR FUCKING ASS OFF. The only way I got this latest job waiting tables is by bsing the whole thing.
Ya know do you really NEED one year of experience to be a FUCKING WAITER? ASSHOLES ! YOU FUCKING ASK QUESTIONS & READ A MENU TO EM. DON"T TELL ME A I NEED A BA IN WAITING TABLES!
And ya know what? You wanna get pussy LIE! Im telling you just lie!
Im gonna make a movie & Im gonna call it LIE!
EVERYHBODY IN IT WILL LIE!
THE MAN WHO ALWAYS TELL THE TRUTH IS LIEING TO HIMSELF!
Im telling you just...lie.

Well we dont really have a say in wether she brings her boyfriend, as she's on her own, She made the choice to run away, she's only here to try and earn some money to live for the winter.
I'm not helping her out with anything financially unless/untill she asks to come home.
the boyfriend will not be staying with us either way, if he wants to get a job and an apartment here, then thats his business.

Except that it isn't good enough, especially not in NYC, trust me, i've got mine, After 4 years of HS, i was 3 credits short, i was 19 years old, in a serious relationship (i got married shortly after i would have started my 5th year) and decided it was just easier all around to get my GED than to go back for a 5th year just for those 3 credits.
Most places in NYC Wouldnt even consider me, even with several years of experience.

Well thats basically what we did, she's bene in NYC for the past 4 months, this is hopefully a step to get her to come home, or if not, at least know that she'll have enough money to get by. its the end of the season up here, and everyone is Desperate for employees, so both she and her BF can easily get jobs for the next month.

That's what we're doing, she needs to find her own place to stay, if she requests to stay with us, but still plans on running off back to NYC before her 18th birthday, she'll have to pay rent. and her Boyfriend isn't staying with us, unless they cannot find ANY other place to stay, in which case he'll be paying rent as well.
