    Basically, it's the same sort of thing that Jack quoted in his thread in the Zocalo. Vivendi going bankrupt, might need to sell of assets (ie subsidiary companies), etc.

    Gamasutra has required registration for a while--close to a year, I think.

    But SB is right--they don't spam you with junk e-mail. The site content is worth registration. I know Randy has written at least one article for the site.

    Thing is, I don't read sites like that so its of no value for me. Besides, its just common courtesy to quote an article from a site that requires registration.

    gamasutra is a very very good site. It's a lite version of the big game developers magazine. It's very entertaining to read, and some good articles on game design and concepts in the industry.

    Slashdot and Blue's News, two very big news sites, don't quote when something needs registration. They just point out that it does.

    It's a grey area. Most sites don't bother with enforcing copyright when someone does that...especially if they only print a few lines of text.
