I was just reading that there's been another crash involving a 737, this time in Indonesia. Is it me, or have there been quite a few crashes recently that have involved 737's?

In that timeline, only two of the crashes this year are listed as 737s.
Also consider that the 737 is one of the most popular passenger jets and that they are commonly used by smaller, lower cost, regional airlines who may not be putting enough money into maintenance (whether because they can't afford it or don't want to spend the money on it). This quote from the article is of particular interest:
Mandala is largely owned by Indonesia's military, and has been forced to cut costs in recent years to stave off losses.
will take you to a list of air disasters this year. 4 737's have gone down this year.

    http://www.airdisaster.com/cgi-bin/view_year.cgi?year=2004
lists last years accidents where 2 went down.

clicking on the days of the accident will give you various details and a little blurb on what happend.

All in all the planes seem to suffer a variety of failures, indicicating that its not just a design flaw brining them down.

And even if there was a common failure, As biggles said (and what I would have posted, had he not) there are just so many of them in the skies. It's unbelievable how far they outnumber the other models, so having a couple go down just doesn't seem all too odd.

There was a thing on the radio this morning about the Mandala one, and in it they mentioned that in many parts of Indonesia it is just about cheaper to get on a plane than catch a bus due to all the little start-ups, and that older airlines are being forced to cut fares and thus costs to compete, and also that when costs are cut one of the first things to go is proper maintenance.
